Loved this hotel and thought the location was pretty central to everywhere we wanted to go to. Was a bit annoyed about the room being available much later than expected and then the bathroom door being very squeaky. Also, they deactivated our room key before we checked out so I had to go back downstairs to get it reactivated so we could grab our stuff. The views were nice and overall was fairly quiet on the 3rd floor. The bathroom mirror was heated so you didn't have to wipe it after a shower and the towel warmer worked. Everyone was lovely and breakfast was pretty good, wish they allowed eating at the bar - I often eat alone so would not have liked to move from the bar to a seat by myself just to eat after enjoying a drink. Was also a bit annoyed when I called at night asking about store/delivery options and the person mentioned googling it, like, thank you, I know how to google but I'm also a tourist so just tell me what delivery apps you have or if you don't know. It's okay to say you don't know. Overall, would stay at this hotel again since it was in a very convenient location and walking distance from Waverly Train Station.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for six days, and I must say that my experience was nothing short of outstanding. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the professionalism and warmth of the staff. Every member of the team went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. I would like to give special thanks to Scott and Victoria, whose exceptional service truly stood out. They were always attentive, friendly, and ready to assist with any request, making me feel valued and well taken care of throughout my stay. The Concierge team was also fantastic—extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They provided great recommendations for local attractions and went out of their way to help with any arrangements I needed, which made my time in the area even more memorable. Additionally, the restaurant staff was incredible. They were not only professional but also very accommodating and attentive. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at this hotel and cannot recommend it highly enough. The level of service provided by the entire team, from the front desk to the restaurant, was truly top-notch. If you're looking for a place that offers exceptional service, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality, this is the place to stay!

Beautiful hotel, very grand. Recently changed from Waldorf Astoria to a Curio Collection hotel. In need of a bit of TLC but you know you are staying in class. There is an aura about the place. Rooms were more than adequate, bar was wonderful. Breakfast was excellent with an extensive hot buffet with first class food, and also freshly made dishes. Staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. Will definitely return.

I recently stayed at the Caledonian in Edinburgh for two nights. The hotel has a charming, authentic vibe, and I had a fantastic view of the castle from my room. Breakfast was enjoyable, but the service could be improved. Unfortunately, I found the shower in the bathroom disappointing. Overall, a memorable stay with some room for improvement.

This is not a 5* hotel, period -- not even close. A 5* hotel does not put you in a room that is markedly different than the one you reserved, and then tell you that "of course we are going to show pictures of the best room in the hotel, but it may not be representative of the room you get assigned" or that "the picture shown online is using a lens that makes the room appear larger than it really is." (See pictures). A 5* hotel does not describe a room as having a "perfectly framed view of Edinburgh Castle" with a picture of 3 panoramic windows and then give you a porthole sized window with a partially obstructed view. (See pictures). A 5* hotel does not ignore your request for a room change upon being called out for assigning a room that is not what you reserved and paid for. A 5* hotel does not have a $1,600/night room with windows that leak, a shower and sink that leaks, and an air conditioner that does not work. A 5* hotel does not have a queue for breakfast over 50 people long (see picture) and only one hostess seating tables that takes over 45 min to get seated. A 5* hotel does not have a breakfast that has been sitting out for hours, with most items empty, and without being replenished. A 5* hotel does not mess up your afternoon tea reservation and then when being asked to resolve the issue tell you that "I don't have a magic wand" and that "I have a degree in hospitality and will not be told that I need to fix this mistake when it is not possible." A 5* hotel has a modern TV that has access to apps and not limited to only about 30 local channels. A 5* hotel does not make significant errors on the folio upon checkout including overcharges and not applying credits that came with the room. A 5* hotel does not have a front desk receptionist tell you that they will speak with a Manager about the issues faced and ensure the Manager will call you before charging your card, and then just go ahead and charge the card without calling or addressing the issues. Bottom line is this is not even close to a 5* experience, so if that's what you're looking for and the price you are quoted, I'd highly suggest staying elsewhere as you will be sorely disappointed. On the positive side, Lina in the restaurant provided fantastic service and is incredibly friendly, and the concierge and bartender are also great. They were definitely bright spots on an otherwise highly disappointing stay.
