Built in 1906 as a ‘Palace of Business’, originally the headquarters for one of the most powerful railway companies in England, it was built during the Golden Age of travel. The Grand is an iconic building, which reflects the elegance and glamour of the period, the success and wealth of the company that commissioned it.
In 2010, this imposing building was reborn as one of Yorkshire’s finest hotels and meeting spaces. Splendidly retaining many of its original features, The Grand exudes luxury and grandeur and has a reputation for exceptional service in the style and tradition you would expect from a five-star hotel, combined the warmest of Yorkshire welcomes.
The Grand, York is surrounded by the longest and best-preserved medieval walls in England. York is steeped in a rich history dating back to the Romans and the Vikings. The architecture and visitor attractions are testament to this, with a roll call of cultural treasures, museums and art.
The Leeman Suite is named after arguably the most famous of York’s railway men, George Leeman, who led an extraordinary life as a lawyer, Liberal MP and finally Chairman of the North Eastern Railway from 1874-1880. The suite suits boardroom meetings for up to 12 delegates, and 20 theatre-style.

What a fabulous hotel, from the courteous welcome from the doorman, through to the service from reception, the bar and waiting staff. The building is magnificent ,beautiful inside and out. Its not cheap, but it is worth it. The buffet breakfast, presents similarly to a lot of other hotels, but, taste the difference the quality is excellent. Can't wait to return.

It was such a pleasure to be surrounded by excellent staff. Not a fault. Whether it be the Concierge, Doormen, Receptionists, Bar Staff, Restaurant and Breakfast staff, Cleaners and Room Service (yeah, we splashed out on a late night honey, lemon and ginger drink); all of them friendly, professional, informative, approachable and helpful. Thanks people. Rooms were clean, well dressed and well presented though a little tired with a few minor issues (too few for me to list and don't want to detract).

We had a lovely weekend away in a suite on the 7th floor, with stunning sea views. The room must have been recently furnished because everything was brand new. The quality of the furnishing and the bathroom design were outstanding. The breakfast was amazing and the staff very helpful and friendly. What a pleasure to stay in such an iconic building. I loved it.

Excellent experience. Beautiful deco and very clean. The breakfast buffet was the highlight of my stay. It offered an incredible variety of options, from classic favorites to healthier choices including salmon and healthy smoothie and drinks. The quality of the food was outstanding, and I was particularly impressed by the freshly omelettes cooked by Mari, customizable with a range of toppings. The staff was incredibly helpful and attentive, ensuring that my stay was as enjoyable as possible. Thanks everyone for an excellent stay. I will definitely come back.

Lovely vibe when I entered the hotel. Friendly staff. Didn't stay, but had the Afternoon Tea (vegan), which was tasty and filling. Sandwiches and pastries were delicious. In fact, I wanted more of the savouries. Cakes and scones were a little heavy. Our table was lovely, which provided for an excellent view. Service was impeccable...
