Occupying an awe-inspiring building that dates from 1905, when it served as the Tower Bridge Magistrates Court, The Dixon is a new hotel that captures all the culture, creativity and variety of SE1, the world’s most cultural postcode.
Named after John Dixon Butler, the Grade II-listed building’s original Edwardian architect, The Dixon is steeped in history but inspired by the contemporary character and culture of its vibrant neighbourhood. Its 193 rooms and suites, lounges and restaurant enjoy an edgy, eclectic design aesthetic and a boutique vibe.
Crafted cocktails and a marble-clad sunken bar beneath the judge's original oak canopy – The Dixon’s Courtroom bar is a cocktail bar like no other.
This old Magistrates’ Courtroom was where petty criminals received their punishment – just take a look at the mugshots on the walls for proof. The original wood panelling remains, and the judge’s bench has been transformed into a bar. It’s a restoration those faces on the walls would approve of. As well as cocktails, a wide selection of the world’s most revered spirits all vie for your attention. Like the signature Espresso Martini, made with our very own Shakedown Coffee. Brewed just feet from the original jail cells, Shakedown is our own brand of coffee that is selected and roasted by our team of baristas.

This is a fantastic hotel - can’t believe it’s not five star rated! Rooms are tastefully decorated, bathrooms are large and modern, the hotel is centrally located, staff are attentive/helpful and we’ve had great experiences with both the restaurant and the bar. We will definitely return!

Located in a quiet street so close to London Bridge us a gem of a place. We visited for afternoon tea and we were the last customers. The dimmen light and Christmas music felt magical. Service was perfect. The non-alcoholic champagne was delicious (we didn't expect that!). The platter itself was served warm and the mushroom tarts are a must try! The fruity orange tea was again worth our experiment. It was delicious! The toilets are a bit far down the corridor and women's toilet was a mess, so had to use the men's. But otherwise the experience was so nice.

I stayed in two different rooms for the visit spending a week here. The first room was an upgrade room on the lower level. It was fancier and did not have a view. It was clean, good hot water and the pillows were ok, not as firm as I like. Very quiet down on the lower level. The second room I had was a regular room with a king bed. You could hear noise through the pipes in this room. It did have a view of the courtyard. Hot water was good and room was clean. Pillows were the same as the first room. Location is fantastic for this hotel. It was a short walk to anything I wanted to do. I would stay at this hotel again when I’m in town.

Previously stayed here in 2022 and had an absolutely wonderful stay in the Presidential Suite so chose to rebook here on my most recent trip. However, this latest experience was less than satisfactory and I would not choose to stay here again. Firstly, despite being well into winter, the hotel is not equipped to keep guests comfortable during the cold months. There appears to be no heating function as anytime you switch to the heat setting it automatically reverts to the cold setting. The temperature does not go above 26C on cold setting, leaving you absolutely freezing. It is quite literally warmer in the hallways than in the room, a very perspective temperature difference can be felt when stepping in/out of the room. With inadequate heating, you would assume alternatives like blankets or winter duvets would be provided - however, this is not the case. Beds are made with a single sheet and a paper thing summer cover, once again providing no warmth whatsoever and leaving us to have to sleep in multiple layers including our outside winter jackets. As for the service, that too has slipped considerably as we were made to feel very unwelcome during our breakfast. The male waiter that served us was rude and spoke down to us at every interaction, acting as he was doing us a favor. He only attended to us when he was required to bring something to the table and each time we had to seek him out to order anything. He did not greet us on entry or exit and expressed no level of service whatsoever, never once checking on us. This was in stark contrast to his treatment of other guests that we observed. The only difference was that we were the only people of color which he seemed to take issue with. Even the restaurant manager called on us more times than he did. The female waitress that helped us out at the end when it was clear we had been abandoned by him and waiting around aimlessly for our check was the only saving grace of the experience and we are thankful for her help. This complete lack of service and disrespectful treatment from the waiter at what purports to be a high end hotel in one of the most diverse cities in the world is completely unacceptable. The one other standout of the hotel is Mahek at the front desk, who provided excellent service with a warm and compassionate demeanor.
