Fantastic hotel, great location for the town, but also plenty of rural locations to explore and visit by foot or short drive. Plenty of history in the area and the hotel feels like it's full of charm and suits the area. Staff have always been freindly and helpful, food is of a decent quality and a fair price, cleanliness and quality of room couldn't be faulted. Will be returning again

It has been a delight to spend a few days at The Abbey. There is ample car parking within attractive well maintained grounds. (The car park is located behind the hotel but it is possible to drop off or pick up right outside.) The entrance is rather grand and Reception is welcoming and efficient. The public rooms are spacious and comfortable. It is extremely well staffed with charming professional personnel and nothing seems too much trouble. My room was perfect with wonderful views over The Priory, the gardens, distant hills and the sunrise. Nice hospitality tray, ample power points and plenty of hot water in the ensuite. Excellent breakfast, good lunch/snack menu and well prepared and presented dinners.

This is an unusual blend of bland corporate and beautiful country house style hotel. The main building is clearly older, think Abbey style, which has been well maintained. Reception staff are very pleasant and welcoming and able to answer any question you might have. There is plenty of lobby space to sit and read or chat while the bar will serve a wide range of drinks. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Well heated and clean. The car park is a good size and located very close by. Do register your car with Reception! The hotel has a lift to help with access. The restaurant is a good size so there is plenty of room for guests. Staff work hard to service all needs.

A four star hotel in a great location that is not a typical bland and corporate four star offering. My room was spacious and comfortable. The whole hotel was charming and elegant. An excellent breakfast was served that was the best I had during my trip to the UK. Plenty of public spaces to relax in, complete with comfortable sofas and armchairs. Ample free car parking. My only issue was with my key card not working on a few occasions, which meant having to go back to reception to have it reprogrammed.

Not worth the price with poor food. The hotel itself is a lovely building, and the location is convenient. The staff were friendly, and the room was adequate (but not four stars in my opinion). However the food is really poor and vastly overpriced. I had a steak for dinner, which was over £30 with a sauce. It was tough and overcooked. I had a brownie for dessert (£10!) which was tiny and had the consistency of cardboard. Breakfast was similarly poor. Limited choice, and the scrambled eggs were completely inedible. Overall I wouldn't recommend. I was staying here with work and I'm glad I didn't have to pay - I won't be back.
