The Museum opened its doors in 1983 and its located on the original terminus of the worlds first inter-city railway, Liverpool Road.
There are 5 listed buildings, 2 of them listed Grade 1. In 2011 the Great Western Warehouse, had a £9M refurbishment which houses the Conference Centre and our Revolution Manchester Gallery which has 52 plasma media wall. A further soft refurbishment took place in 2015. Both Revolution Manchester Gallery and The Power Hall, provide guests the opportunity to dine amongst some of the worlds oldest exhibits from the world of science and engineering.
The Whitworth is a state-of-the-art function and meeting room located in the Museum's recently renovated Great Western Warehouse. It boasts an advanced AV system, LCD projector screen, DVD players, speakers, microphones and a dedicated events manager who will ensure all training sessions, interviews, conferences and presentations are faultlessly executed.

September 2024It was an interesting place to visit, there was a lot of exhibit all across time including personal items belonging to Dr. Stephen Hawking. It was indeed enlightening, would recommend to visit with family and friends.

August 2024A family visit to Science Museum was an excellent experience whole family thoroughly enjoyed. It is a major museum dedicated to the development of science, technology, and industry. Located on the site of the world’s first passenger railway station, it showcases Manchester’s rich industrial heritage and its role in the Industrial Revolution. The museum features a wide range of exhibits, including steam engines, early computers, and a working replica of a cotton mill. It also has interactive displays, hands-on activities, and regular special exhibitions that explore scientific and technological advancements. The museum is part of the Science Museum Group and is free to enter.
