For more than 150 years, the Science Museum has been educating and entertaining visitors and has occupied its current building since 1928. Just as the progress of science is constantly advancing and expanding, so the Science Museum has expanded, continually updating and adding ever more exciting and dynamic exhibitions and venues. Even now, there is a masterplan to create a system of new galleries opening in 2013 and beyond.

After almost 40 years of showcasing real rockets and spacecraft, don’t miss your last chance to host an ‘out-of-this-world event’ in Exploring Space! Our Exploring Space gallery will close after 22 April as part of an ambitious transformation of our ground floor galleries meaning now is the last chance to host an event in this incredible space.

Exploring Space is one of the Science Museum’s most popular attractions. This evocative gallery tells the fascinating story of space exploration and showcases satellites, probes, landers and actual space rockets.

Available for evening hire, this out-of-this-world location is the ideal landing site for a drinks reception for up to 300 people or dinner for up to 180.

As you enjoy your event experience you can find out how the Space Age started with the launch of Sputnik 1 and explore how we’ve sent spacecraft to other planets, walked on the Moon and peered into the heart of our galaxy and beyond.

Your guests can marvel at a full-sized replica of the ‘Eagle’, the lander that took the astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin to the Moon in 1969, and the Soyuz TMA-19M descent module that Tim Peake returned to earth in on 18 June 2016.

The Science Museum is an absolute must-visit! It’s packed with fascinating exhibits that make science fun and engaging for all ages. From space exploration to interactive experiments, there’s something for everyone. The hands-on galleries are perfect for kids, and the collection of historic innovations is truly impressive. Best of all, entry is free, making it a fantastic day out in London. Highly recommended!

Visiting the London Science Museum recently brought back so many memories from when I went as a kid—and it’s just as amazing now as it was then! I remember being in awe of the giant rockets and cool gadgets, and this time, I got to relive that excitement all over again. The interactive exhibits are still a highlight, with plenty to keep both kids and adults entertained. From learning about space to exploring cutting-edge technology, there’s so much to discover. It’s fun, educational, and completely free—a perfect day out! If you’ve never been, you’re missing out. And if you went as a kid like me, it’s definitely worth going back for another dose of wonder!

Accessible and impressive. Good display and explanations. 'Handling display' (1st photo) very effective at bringing articles "to life". Great for kids and adults who refuse to grow up! My new favourite from our 3-day stay in the capital.

Cool place with so many things to do, even for kids. My 2y old enjoyed The garden in the basement of the museum. It was very busy but there were still plenty of things to do. Don't forget to buy free tickets online.

Had a great day out with the family. Must be first on your list if you are visiting London with kids. Lovely exhibits related to space, and engineering inventions. Truly amazed with how they have been preserved. There are also many sensory and interactive areas for young kids to play. We had a blast at Power Up. A must if you’re a gamer, We didn’t have to wait too long to get in on a Sunday afternoon. It was crowded but expected on a Xmas weekend. We could carry our food and drinks plus bought some more. Museum shop has very good merchandise. Will need a few visits to see everything. Highly recommended. We will be back!
