Set in the immense vaults beneath The Royal Exchange, The Libertine is the new home of indulgence in the heart of the city. Sitting on the site where the very first royal alcohol licence in Britain was granted, the space is steeped in hedonism and mischief.
The bustle and opportunity around the old Royal Exchange, built in 1571, attracted merchant, heralds and rogues from across the city and beyond. Once the day’s work was done (and often before), the assembled traders would partake of boisterous ‘tippling’ in the vaults under the Exchange.
The Libertine is a modern revival of those free spirited times, with spaces for drinking, dining and unwinding well into the night, away from prudish prying eyes.
The vaults beneath The Royal Exchange house a new fortune. Step through the unassuming door on Cornhill and down a spiral staircase where there lies a den of spirited talk and lively tippling; introducing The Libertine.
Under vaulted arches which once guarded the spices, silks and gold that enriched London in years gone by sits an impressive bar worthy of the modern City
The Libertine is home to two private dining rooms and a beautiful main restaurant, perfect for indulgent long lunches and lively celebratory dinners.

November 2024Managed to get a Sunday Roast last minute and was absolutely chuffed. I’d had Libertine down on my need-to-try list for ages. Definitely lived up to the hype. We got the sharing roast (I don’t recall the name). My own complaint was that I didn’t have enough room in my stomach to also get the carpaccio. Our server, Mo, was rad and super helpful. He was both knowledgeable and personable- definitely took the experience up a few notches! Oh, and did I mention it’s located underground in a vault? We’ll be back for sure! 😘✌️

November 2024Beautiful little restaurant, our server MO was outstanding, a warm welcome and lots of recommendations. Scallops were a stand out and majority food was excellent the rump steak was a really bad cut and inedible but he took care of us so that we still left very happy.

January 2025We stumbled upon the place while walking by, and a slightly ajar door piqued my interest. The ambiance was undeniably speakeasy-esque. Stepping inside, we were greeted by a festive decor and a staircase leading to the restaurant/speakeasy bar. Time constraints limited us to a single drink, but the staff and atmosphere were so inviting that we wished we could linger all day. Highly recommended, and I can't wait to return on my next London trip.

December 2024Antonio is truly exceptional—open, kind, and incredibly positive. The food was outstanding, and Antonio took the time to share everything about the dishes and the story behind the place. His passion and warmth made the experience unforgettable. I would return here just for him and the incredible food. Highly recommended!
