Welcome to The Royal Institution, a place for the curious and adventurous. Originally established in 1814 to promote Literature, Science, and the Arts, it was honored with a royal charter in 1821.

In this new era, we remain rooted in our historical foundations and themes, paying homage to significant moments like the iconic 'Birds of America' exhibition by John James Audubon in the early 1800s. Our decor celebrates the rich cultural history of our esteemed building. Stepping into the 21st century, our three distinctive rooms offer a captivating journey through the world of fine wine, spirits, and expertly crafted cocktails. Our philosophy is simple yet exceptional, aiming to elevate classic and signature cocktails to new heights.

The entire venue offers a large corridor space, along with three separate rooms, all different themes and spaces. The Exhibition room is based on the art and history from the 1800s of the buildings past, along with unique décor and a cosy feel to it. The Reading room is based on once an old library in the buildings past with a more quirky and clean finish to it.

Lastly the Habitat room is linked to the sciences that took place here over the decades. This room has an earthy warm feeling to it, along with quirky art work and cosy furniture. The entire space seats around 75 guests and stands around 100-120 guests. Each room can be hired out individually or the entire venue can be hired out for events or party's. The Habitat room can host up to 30-35 guests. The Reading room can host up to 30-40 guests. The entire venue hire can hold up to 100 guests, depending on the event.

This venue holds a special place in my heart as many years ago my dad grew up in this building and his dad was the caretaker. It’s decked out isa tasteful and beautiful way. The drinks were amazing and if you don’t drink they do a variety of cocktails. The bar staff are very knowledgeable and attentive, and the atmosphere is cozy and intimate. Highly recommend visiting this place.

We hosted my Daughters Baby Shower here on a Sunday and it was an absolute delight! The two Gentleman who ran the bar were exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. They were helpful, friendly and just made the day and preparations easy. Drinks were reasonably priced, venue is obviously stunning. Would recommend to anyone considering a small intimate venue. Excellent. Thank you.

Been here a few times now and normally it's great however we visited on a Saturday and were very disappointed. The quality of the cocktails were poor for the price, the prosecco was flat and clearly from the day before and service was slow to the point we were never given menus. The music was far too loud to the point it felt like the venue wasn't sure if it was a cocktail bar or a nightclub.
