I didn't realise how much I loved history until I stepped back in time to Colchester Castle. I remembered learning about it at school many moons ago but to walk through those doors, visit the vaults, and be on the rooftop...wow. I had previously been put off due to the entry fee if I'm honest, but after experiencing it today, it is worth every penny. We booked the additional tour, which provided access to the vaults; you need only do this once, but actually just the gravity of it would probably make me want to do it again. The museum was packed full of fantastic artefacts and mosaics, stories and exhibitions and the tour really added some more depth to it. It's very interactive for children of all ages providing activities like dressing up, things to touch/feel, an interactive chariot race on a screen, buttons to press to hear character stories...I could go on. The grounds are beautifully kept surrounding the castle and it really is one to do if you're in the city.

Fantastically showcased history! Wonderful helpful staff & the tour guide (Glyn, if memory serves) was knowledgeable, sensitive to the atrocities of the past & handled them beautifully, answered all questions & made the experience absolutely brilliant.
