Really nice people who look after you. Real castle. Ask for the dungeon tour at reception. Lovely food and a very laid back atmosphere. Good parking area . Decent gardens although more of a green area. More of an adult hotel not a great deal for younger children to do. But lots of nice places to visit round about. Felt really off the beaten path but actually central. Places to visit Barnard castle, Bowes museum, Durham a little further. Lots of interesting places locally.

A lovely hotel, beautiful setting with a clean, warm and comfortable room which suited our needs perfectly. A lovely two night stay. We didn't dine there as we spent most of our time in Darlington with family. The staff member who took our booking by phone was particularly helpful, fitting us in to an accessible room which was not available online . Many thanks for that.

This little gem is tucked away in the County Durham countryside. Admittedly it is a bit away from larger towns but anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life should find this ideal. This castle and surrounding countryside is drenched in history. The service was excellent, the staff fabulous and the dinner we had was fantastic. I cannot believe this is only a 3 star establishment and in a castle. So glad we found this hotel and hope to have an opportunity to return.

I stayed overnight with my family and enjoyed a Murder, Mystery evening. The room we stayed in was in the wing but smelt a bit feisty . The walls were a bit thin so we heard the guests television until early hours and again very early again in the morning. At breakfast the toasters need replacing as they were only toasting 1 side and taking quite a long time to do that. I felt the cooked breakfast was a bit sparse for those who have a more robust appetite but overall the Castle is an amazing place to stay.
