I stayed here whilst visiting Liverpool as it was a lot cheaper than staying in Liverpool and because it seemed more interesting. I really liked it and would do the same again. The rooms (I stayed in 32 and 43) were clean, warm, comfortable, well decorated and quiet. The hotel is full of interesting rooms and corners, plus history on the building, the lighthouse and the ship named after the building. Breakfast was nothing special but it was ok and the server very friendly. But top marks go to the customer service from Dale on reception; would give him ten stars if that was possible. Recommended.

On a tour, not staying although I had visited years ago for a business event. It has lovely views and includes the interior decorations from The Star Chamber, which is enough to excite anyone with an interest in the monarchy and the law. It is a stunning room, with charming, fresh views of green and sky. Open spaces and a cozy bar to enjoy too.

We enjoyed our stay and would gladly visit again. Our very clean room was one of the cheaper ones but it was spacious and well appointed. We enjoyed a quick drink in the bar and found the prices very reasonable and the young man serving us polite, friendly and helpful. There was a well cooked breakfast made the next morning using good quality ingredients. It was provided with table service in a pleasant dining room. We usually read reviews before booking, but on this occasion we're glad we didn't because they would have put us off and we would not have stayed. As it happens, although we booked in a hurry and then read the reviews, leaving us dreading our visit, happily our expectations were confounded. We are at a loss to recognise the hotel from some of the negative comments, which have baffled us. It is true, as others have said, that the hotel asks for a £200 deposit but, to be fair, this unusual policy is stated on the hotel's website and the deposit was refunded in full within a few hours of us checking out. This is a charming hotel with attentive, hardworking staff, offering a good service.

A few bad points with the room but that is just the one I stayed in. The food was okay but not a great deal of choices, it's either fish and chips, curry or a burger. The first thoughts on the hotel were great however once you've stayed a few nights you soon realise that it could be better than it is. I was directed to eat in the bar area which has limited choices however there is a separate dining area near reception and I'm not sure if the food variety is better there or not. Some crumbling walls/mouldy walls around the place where the rooms are. Again this is just near the room I stayed in as I never explored further.

We came in for lunch today as we got married here 8 years ago and thought it would be a nice place for lunch. The menu is very small, but we chose a burger and fries each (me and the little one had beef and my wife chicken). The chicken burger was fine, fries were well cooked and seasoned. The beef burgers however we both ordered without cheese, yet came with it, and we're both really dry/overcooked. We had been waiting quite some time for them to come even though it was very quiet in there and didn't see any point in sending them back. I doubt we'll be back unless invited to an event.
