*Starters:** **Beef Tartare:** The beef tartare was a great way to start the meal. The texture of the beef was tender, and it had the perfect balance of seasoning. The flavors were bold but well-balanced, with a subtle richness complemented by the traditional garnishes. It was a refined dish, simple yet elevated. **Watermelon Ceviche:** This was a surprising and refreshing twist. The natural sweetness of the watermelon, combined with the tangy citrus and herbs, made for a unique contrast. It felt light and vibrant, offering a palate cleanser before diving into the more substantial courses. **Main:** **Rib-Eye Steak:** The star of the meal was definitely the rib-eye steak. Cooked to perfection, it was juicy, tender, and packed with a rich, smoky flavor from the grill. The char on the outside was excellent, while the inside remained perfectly pink and succulent. Each bite was a reminder of why Coal Shed is known for its grilled meats. **Sides:** **Caesar Salad:** The Caesar salad was well-executed, with crisp romaine, a creamy yet light dressing, and a nice punch from the parmesan and anchovies. It complemented the richness of the steak without overshadowing it. Coal Shed did not disappoint. The dishes were well-crafted, and the quality of ingredients shone through. While the beef tartare and rib-eye were the highlights, the watermelon ceviche added a delightful contrast, and the Caesar salad rounded off the meal nicely. Service was attentive, and the ambiance made for a comfortable, enjoyable dining experience. I would highly recommend Coal Shed for anyone seeking high-quality steak and innovative starters.

Went there on a unplanned week evening out in Brighton with my partner. Very nice restaurant with a lot of effort put into the decoration, the service and the food. On the expensive side since you need to order one or two sides with your dish but well worth it, food was so tasty and singular. Had a lovely time.

We booked last minute by phoning and they fitted us in for lunch. Excellent service and the new restaurant is lovely. Food was excellent. We all had steak, but we all thought the best dish was the firecracker cauliflower which was recommended to us. We suggest the chicken side dish is cooked in the same way. And the steaks were excellent too. We will be back

Great new location for a long time favourite. Menu has been extended and tried a couple of new dishes - scallops - wonderful and the Brûlée Brioche - imaginative and delicious. The steak - a ribeye - and chips were as good as ever. Service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. If I was to look for faults, I did find the music slightly loud - but that’s my personal impression. Boyce’s Street has a more than worthy successor and I look forward to going back.

I've been reading some of the negative comments about this beautiful restaurant and I just cannot understand it. I think it could be because some people prefer not to talk to the waiting staff about their needs and they end up being disappointed. If you talk to the staff you will see that they are very friendly, knowledgeable and experienced. They are the ones doing what they're doing everyday and they really do know it best. We talked to a very friendly, easygoing staff member and she was happy to answer all questions - drinks, starters, steak, you name it and she knew all about it. From our brief chat, she immediately knew what we would like to eat even though we didn't! When the steaks arrived we were both very happy that we listened to her experienced advice on the type of beef and how it's supposed to be cooked based on the type. We had beautiful drinks and starters and no problems there either. We loved how staff were friendly and welcoming and how a brief chat made our experience so much nicer than what it would have been if we kept it to ourselves and made decisions on our own. I'm so happy that we have this beautiful quality restaurant in Brighton and glad that they're only moving to a different place and not closing because THAT would be very disappointing!
