Visiting from Canada and stayed here for 5 nights in June 2024. The hotel is beautiful and full of history both inside and out. The employees we interacted with were all friendly and welcoming and had true Scottish charm. Even though the building itself is old and there are lots of old world charm, the rooms themselves were well appointed and modern. Every day they provided complimentary shortbread in your room! How Scottish is that?? I enjoyed snacking on them each evening. They also provided complimentary water in the rooms. The rooms also had a mini-fridge. The bathrooms were modern with a nice shower and facilities. The rooms did not have air conditioning or a fan, but that's part of the old world charm :). Location was an easy drive to Aberdeen and for exploring the surrounding area. Breakfast was a buffet and had a full Scottish breakfast available. The only eggs on the buffet were fried eggs. It wasn't until my last day that I realized you could ask them to cook scrambled eggs for you. I wish I had known that sooner. When I return to Aberdeen, I will stay here again.

We booked a relaxing spa day with lunch and treatment included. The place is stunning. Sadly our relaxing spa experience was during kids swimming lessons so we couldn't hear each other think never mind enjoy the jacuzzi or pool. I'd suggest asking when lessons/public swimming is on before booking. The treatments (massages) were amazing. All 5 of us would return for the treatments. The girls certainly knew what they were doing and made the whole thing worth it. We went to find out where we were having lunch and the reception went to send us in a completely different direction until another member of staff corrected her, then the girl told us we could sit anywhere but we were actually set up at the other end of the room. Nobody seemed to know what was going on and wasn't very professional. The bar man was amazing. Such a great vibe and conversation off him. We all enjoyed his banter and he made amazing cocktails. Lunch was lovely. The food was great sizes and quality. So again, this made the trip worth it.

Stayed here for 3 nights over the late August bank holiday weekend. Found the hotel to be quite disappointing. It’s not in good condition and is in need of a renovation. The pictures and marketing content set my expectations way too high, I should have read the other angry reviews on here. The breakfast and restaurant food are quite poor quality so don’t bother paying for those. My room smelled of cigarettes despite it being a nonsmoking room. The pool, sauna, and locker room facilities are very run down. The massage rooms were good and the masseuse (Jolee) was great. Otherwise I wouldn’t recommend the spa. Location is fine as along as you have a car. Would not recommend staying here if you’re in town to golf as they don’t serve breakfast until 8am on weekends. Overall a disappointing stay and won’t return. If you set your expectations for a 2-3 star experience then you might find it to be OK.

I just returned from 9 nights stay at the hotel with my 2 teen kids. Saying that it was the most unpleasant hotel stay ever, saying nothing. This was our 5th stay at the hotel and it wasn't this bad before but gradually going that way. Reading the other poor reviews on the website, one would think that they will take into account all the comments and try to improve. Absolutely NOT! It is getting actually worse. The staff is highly unprofessional and unhelpful. They intensely argue with you and make you feel that all is your fault. We checked in late at night and were given a room key with "if you have any issues, just dial 0 from the room". We found the room that was never designed for 3 people but was put a makeshift piece of metal as a bed for 3rd person:-/ And when I wanted to call the receptionist to ask what was that all about, the room didn't have a phone. I can't even start talking about the cleanness of the whole hotel, let alone the rooms. It was appalling! Swimming pool/gym facilities were so old and run down, that it was not safe to be near it. Food was very poor. Breakfast is dull and unhealthy, no veggies whatsoever. Wanted to eat at the hotel one night, the menu had nothing appealing on it. All in all, we couldn't wait to leave the hotel at the end of the stay. If you are thinking of staying at this hotel, please think twice! Not worth of your money. And this is definitely not a 4 star hotel!!!

I recently stayed at this hotel for eight days with my work team, booking a total of five rooms. Our experience was absolutely dreadful, primarily due to the horrendous cleaning service. The rooms were filthy from the start, and it only got worse as our stay progressed. Firstly, the towels we left on the floor to be replaced were ignored for days, left there to gather dust and who knows what else. The mini-bar was never restocked, leaving us without basic refreshments, and the trash that was clearly visible on the floor was never picked up. Even the bathrooms seemed untouched by housekeeping—dirty and unpleasant to use. One of the most frustrating things was the pillows. I left them on the floor, hoping they’d be changed, only to find them still there, untouched, when I returned. This was a clear indication that the cleaning staff wasn't doing the most basic tasks, let alone maintaining any standard of cleanliness. On top of that, when we went to the reception twice to complain about these issues, the staff seemed completely indifferent. It was as if our complaints went in one ear and out the other, as nothing changed whatsoever during our stay. The state of the rooms and the lack of service were unacceptable. I am thoroughly disappointed and will make it my mission to recommend that no one stays at this hotel. It's clear they don't care about their guests or maintaining a basic standard of hygiene. Stay away if you value cleanliness and decent service.
