Douneside House is situated in the Scottish Highlands, steeped in history and full of character. Following a major renovation, our historic house re-opened its doors on the 1st June 2016, offering guests a luxurious Scottish countryside stay.
Set within the grounds of the MacRobert Estate in Aberdeenshire, the main House features 14 beautiful guest rooms. The current refurbishment includes a complete re-design of each room to create a classic-contemporary style, whilst retaining important elements of Douneside’s original character through the careful placement of individual pieces of antique furniture and precious artwork.
Adjacent to the main House is the Casa Memoria building, which was originally brought to life by the MacRobert family, as a museum for artefacts collected on their extensive overseas travels. The building’s unusual architecture has enabled its transformation into four contemporary, architect-designed guest apartments, ranging in size from one to three bedrooms.
Douneside House is the perfect place for inspiring meetings and conferences, away from the hustle and bustle of city life in Aberdeen. Here, busy office workers can swap air-conditioned offices for a unique, invigorating setting to spark creativity and fresh ideas. Our Conservatory offers state-of-the-art conference and meeting facilities for up to 60 delegates in a tranquil setting surrounded by nature. In addition we offer ‘break-out’ room facilities to recharge in-between sittings. Event organisers may choose between day-only or residential delegate packages, designed to meet all requirements, while Head Chef Butters can assist with culinary wishes.

March 2025Didn’t stay so can’t rate the rooms but the service and location were fabulous. Highly recommend the Afternoon tea and can only imagine all dining options are great.

March 2025I stayed here for the third time on March 7 with three other friends. This place is ideal if like me, you enjoy nights away with a touch of homely comforts with some great service in a lovely setting. We booked direct and opted to have dinner included option. We had pre-dinner drinks served by their wonderful sommelier, James. He’s a gentleman in the true sense of the word and his manner is perfect, truly compliments the hotel. We ordered sea bass we my friends found to be ok, I had pheasant which once lovely. Breakfast was lovely and our server, Josh was attentive bringing me boiled eggs with soldiers which was really funny. Unfortunately, I do have two issues which surprised me, first the shower in room 5 was dreadful, really no pressure, however for me, the most upsetting issue was the restaurant manager, Calum, I didn’t find his sense of humour very becoming. I quietly approached him at the pre-dinner drinks and said excuse me, his reply, your excused! I’m a guest in the hotel and this is how you reply to a guest… This wasn’t just an isolated situation, they were several remarks throughout the night. Particularly disappointing. Other than these two points, this is a lovely location with a really sad backstory which is now helping many people. I’ll leave it up to you to find out more as it’s really worth a visit.
