Great location and a charming hotel. First time in the Cotswolds , really enjoyed it. Rooms need upgrades. Mattresses definitely need changing. Friendly staff but service was slow all over and had to remind them of orders a few times to get it. Probably understaffed.

Visited for afternoon tea. The food was bad. Like not inedible but nothing more. Wonderful grounds and room done aesthetically. Avoid for sure. Unless you are going for just a drink. Then maybe not too sorrowful a visit.

Can’t fault the surroundings and helpful receptionist. Restaurant wise it was far from what we expected, inattentive and food was mediocre. You could do so much better than this with good management, I echo a lot of these reviews.

One star is even too generous for this hotel. I immediately had a bad feeling upon arrival with a “check-in isn’t until 3 PM” greeting. Turns out that feeling was 100% accurate. Asked to have my bags stored until check-in then wandered the hotel to find a restroom, all while two staff members never looked up to offer directions, or any information about the hotel and surrounding area for that matter. This set the tone for my two night stay. Any time I asked a staff member a question, they looked petrified due to lack of knowledge and customer service skills (basic questions like hikes/walks around the area, is it possible to have ice sent to my room, are you serving lunch today, can I order a latte, do you have a wine key). The rooms are filthy - dust, bugs in bed, spiders, hair in bathrooms, a mini fridge that was barely cold and crusted spillage at the bottom. Milk for coffee was left in the room, but stored in an insulated container (apparently as faulty as the mini fridge) therefore it was spoiled. In addition, they seem to be understaffed. For example, the bartender was never at the bar (saw him moving furniture at one point) and the housekeeper appeared to be overwhelmed given a guest’s leftover room service dishes sitting out in the hall all day. Breakfast is included but not edible (the eggs were the same color as the salmon) and the coffee is merely brown water. Upon check out, a gentleman ahead of me was complaining about how the kitchen ran out of food during dinner service the night before and the staff’s response was “that’s not the feedback we typically receive” accompanied with an unwillingness to make it right. I voiced some of the above concerns and was told they’ll use the information for training purposes. I’ve never paid so much for such lackluster service and filth accommodations. My airport hotel at the Sheraton in Charlotte was cleaner, offered a better atmosphere and more amenities than Slaughters Manor House. Hate to end on a negative so here’s your one positive - if you tend to travel with an old IPod, you’re in for a real treat, as the room includes an iPod docking station with surround sound speakers. Stay anywhere but here, don’t even stop for a meal or drink, many wonderful options nearby.
