I have been to the cafe here multiple times and am never disappointed. Everything about Patina oozes quality. The cafe is clean and bright, the staff are friendly and efficient, the coffee is superb (and they use Mossgiel Farm organic milk), you can watch the pastries (which are incredible) being made and baked, you can buy loaves of their bread (which is very, very good) and the focaccia sandwiches are always stuffed with delicious fillings. Okay, it's not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for and judging by how busy it is there are plenty of people willing to pay for this level of quality. The location is a little quirky but once you are there it is great - the area is quiet with lots of space around it - you really feel like you've escaped the hustle and bustle of the city. It's well worth a visit.

Went for food one Sunday late lunch. Had a sandwich and a peppermint tea and a cake. Was lovely. Would go back again in the evening when it may have more of an atmosphere and hot food. Staff very helpful.and welcoming. Back again in the summer this time. Lovely airy and summery vibe.

Excellent choice for a breakfast/brunch outside of the city centre. The food is good and carefully prepared. The prices are on the expensive side (given that you are not in the city) but the quality balances it. Polite service and ready to help you. Main issue for the place is the parking. If you use the tram, the place is straight out on the stop but with car despite it's "in the middle of nowhere" you need to pay for parking as all the aread around is parking restricted.

After seeing this cafe on a list of foodie places to visit in Edinburgh we HAD to go. It’s a little out the way for us but we didn’t mind the detour. The location is great. Very modern looking. There’s a multi story car park a few minutes walk away which is 1 hour free. I was expecting more sweet treats as from the google images there appeared to have a greater variety but there was still a good enough selection. My wife and I went for a sandwich each which were large and delicious. They are pre-made but still taste very fresh. We also went for a toblerone-like cake (I cannot remember the name of it), a pastry and a croissant. The cake was lovely with a unique texture. The pastry was really nice and the croissant was probably the best I’ve ever had. It was brilliantly layered, crispy on the outside and soft and buttery on the inside. Usually I’d prefer a flavoured croissant but this was that nice that I was happy with a plain one. The cafe is on the pricey side but worth the money. The serving plates were high quality (very expensive) and I loved the open plan and how you get to see the bakers do their work in the kitchen. The lady that served us was very friendly and helpful but the gent wasn’t the best. I asked him what type of loafs they were selling. He wasn’t sure but didn’t make an effort to find out and so we were left standing like spare plums. *Update* Upon revisiting, I've downgraded my rating to 4 stars. While the majority of the food, particularly the pastries and sandwiches, is delightful, our recent experience with the soup was underwhelming. Despite being labeled as sweet potato, it carried an overpowering taste we couldn't identify. Additionally, the hot chocolate my wife ordered appeared appealing but tasted diluted. However, it wasn't all disappointing; my focaccia sandwich was exceptional, boasting flavorful fillings and generous portions. The croissants we ordered were excellent, as was the cheese pastry. Nonetheless, inconsistent service detracted from the experience. While some staff members were welcoming, others were less so. Upon arrival, we were left unsure whether to order at the counter or find a table. Clarity regarding the process and a warmer welcome would greatly enhance the overall experience.

UPDATE : Reduced to three stars. Somethings gone wrong here. What used to be a certain 5 that I would recommend to everyone has really gone downhill. No pastries / cakes for sale at 1.30pm on our last visit. They seem to have merged cafe and restaurant resulting in shambolic service. Savoury food we ordered was “meh” and very expensive!! No takeaway sandwiches either when we went. Lovely bakery and coffee shop near Edinburgh Park tram. Well worth a detour. Parking nearby too. We had delicious coffee and a selection of pastries. So good we bought sandwiches and more cakes to take away for lunch!
