In the South Downs National Park, The Spread Eagle Hotel & Spa dates back to 1430. Old and original features are still present, including inglenook fireplaces, Tudor bread ovens, Flemish stained-glass windows and oak beams. Each of its bedrooms is individually designed, and the cosy Queen’s Suite is said to have housed Elizabeth I. The largest of the function rooms is the Jacobean Hall, which has stone walls, heraldic banners and a minstrels gallery. The more intimate King Edward VII Suite, on the other hand, is ideal for informal meetings. Guests in need of some R&R should check out the Scandinavian-style spa and indoor pool.

January 2025What a dream! This place truly gets it right. I can’t stop thinking about the dinner we had—it’s left me eager to come back and try all the other dishes. The staff go above and beyond and are genuinely the friendliest team I’ve ever encountered. The spa is spotless and wonderfully peaceful. While many places in the UK tend to overcharge for what they offer, this one is an exception. We’ll definitely be back, and I’ll be recommending it even to my most particular friends. Outstanding job, everyone!

January 2025Last night, I enjoyed The Twilight Spa package, which included a spa treatment, access to the pool, sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi, followed by a two-course meal with a glass of sparkling wine. I don’t say this often, but I was absolutely blown away. The venue was stunning, impeccably maintained, and of the highest quality. The food was delicious, and the entire experience left us thoroughly impressed. If I had one criticism, it would be that the treatment felt like a sales pitch throughout. After the session, I was taken to the products section, where the items were explained to me in great detail, so much so that it began to feel a bit uncomfortable. The rest of the experience was truly exceptional. Highly recommended.

March 2025We stayed at The Spread Eagle last night on a "Cosy" package, DBB. When we arrived we were delighted to find that we had been upgraded to a suite, in celebration of our wedding anniversary. We had a relaxing couple of hours in the spa. Then, after a glass of English sparkling wine, I had a three course dinner in the restaurant. Delicious food and fabulous unobtrusive service. The cheese souffle main course was amazing, and the creme brulee perfectly cooked for desert. Breakfast today was the best we've ever had in a hotel. With plenty of local items, delicious continental options, and the full English were superb. After a walk in the town, we enjoyed a later check out, followed by a dip in the pool prior to departure. It was great to meet the General Manager and observe a seriously friendly hands-on approach from all the staff. It really felt like a night at home, surrounded by friends. If I could give this review 10 stars, I would 10 times over. If you ever want to stay somewhere where you instantly feel at ease and very, very welcome, choose this hotel. Don't delay booking, you won't regret it (and you won't want to leave)

February 2025I recently had a fantastic lunch here with some family. Our waitress was called Faith and she was amazing. Great knowledge of the menu and all the wine and drinks we quizzed her on. A real asset to their team and she should be praised by her bosses!! will be back soon!!
