Dating all the way back to 1844, the rich history of Citation contributes to its vibrance and rusticity. Originally the Sheriff Court building designed by Clarke & Bell in the mid-19th century, its breathtaking features were retained during redevelopment 160 years later.

Sandstone columns dominate the particularly prominent B-listed exterior, dressed in fairy lights to delicately illuminate a picture-perfect atmosphere.

Today, Citation plays host to events of all functions. Whether it’s your fairytale wedding, a first-class fundraiser, or the celebration of a lifetime — you’ll be sure to make history with us here.

Your guests enter in with their own entrance to the spectacular backdrop of our Taverne Bar. Whether checking in or starting the evening off with a cocktails and canapes, this luxurious stylist bar is the perfect backdrop for the beginning or end of your night.
With discreet screens on both walls – sponsors, brands and other greetings can be projected to greet your guests. As you move through the Taverne Bar you’ll find an open space – ideal for mingling, networking or dancing. Here you’ll find interchangeable LED lighting – creating an easy atmospheric additional to your evening and building in your brands or sponsors colours. These small touches takes a beautiful city centre bar, in to a transformative backdrop ready to set the tone be that formal training or a celebration.
The Taverne Bar benefits from being fully accessible, with a street level lift which will take guests from street level to our Taverne Bar, and upstairs in to the bright and airy atmosphere of our Merchant Suite.

    April 2024

I was there as part of a large group. The beer selection was a bit limited, but the prices were what I would expect for a plush city centre site, eg £3.10 for a diet coke. The food was average, but they took away the dessert before my table got to have any. They did manage to have a wee ceilidh, with music from Ceilidh Minogue who were very good. There is a veranda with a good view over the street and they had a piper play us in.
