The Blackwell Grange Hotel makes a spectacular first impression as you approach the building down the sweeping driveway. Located in Darlington, County Durham, the gorgeous building with a Georgian façade, stands proudly amidst nine acres of charming countryside.
The Blackwell Grange was original built as a private residence by the Allan family. The building’s construction began in 1663 and was completed in 1717. Now a wonderful hotel, The Blackwell Grange has experienced a long and fascinating life so far.
The outstanding grounds and striking interiors – including a grand Georgian staircase – provide the stunning backdrops for your treasured wedding photographs.
There are two fantastic function suites for your wedding celebrations. The Jacobean Suite has stunning high ceilings with original oak beams. The suite can accommodate up to 140 day guests and 200 for the evening. Alternatively, the George Allan Suite has the capacity for 80 day guests and 130 evening guests. The room has distinct traditional décor, overlooks the beautiful gardens, and has direct access to the Wedding Gazebo on the grounds.
The Gazebo is situated in the heart of the garden and is licensed to hold civil ceremonies. The glorious outdoor setting provides the perfect atmosphere in which to say “I do”.
We hold Wedding Open Evenings every month, so please feel free to pop along! When you visit, you can see the suites dressed and laid out for a wedding celebration. Open Evenings are on the last Thursday of the month and run from 6pm to 7:30pm.

Visited the hotel for a friend's Wedding. Beautiful decor and staff went out their way during the wedding. Everything was done at a high standard. Even got my own vegan set menu for the wedding, which was delicious and well thought out.

Booked a private dining room for my Mum's 90th birthday. Wonderful room with view of garden, great food, good service nothing was too much trouble. The front of house staff and particularly Bethany who took our orders and looked after us throughout the lunch were excellent, including regarding food allergies and accommodating our disabled guests. My mum had an amazing birthday meal, thank you so much to all the staff team. Jenny, September 2024

Stayed over at the place for two nights for a wedding at the venue. The hotel has a very rustic feel to the place from the subtle colours to the lovely artwork displayed (including lovely artwork in the dining room). The bedroom was very clean and the bathroom was very pretty though water pressure could have been better in the waterfall style shower. TV got all channels and very easy to use. Breakfast was glorious and my favourite part with so many choices my stomach didn't know what to eat first. Also very accommodating for a vegetarian (beautifully made veggie sausages). Thoroughly enjoyed the fruit selection. The venue as a wedding choice was lovely and the sun surely blessed us. Meals were cooked lovely and there was lots to go around. Staff on hand throughout the night were very friendly and engaged in funny conversations which was appreciated! The staff at the desk were also very nice from arrival to departure.

Stay over for one night. Building and communal areas were lovely. However, rooms were a little less than expected. Dusty, and cramped and only side lights, which made applying makeup a challenge. The shower wasn't very good and didn't have any sugar. Breakfast was typical buffet style, plenty of choice.

It looked so amazing from the outside but i have to say we checked in our room and were welcomed by 7 huge moths. Im not that bothered by them but my partner could not enter! They were pretty huge and very hard to catch! The window was left wide open and it did feel like a shed when we went in! Apparently there were no other rooms available but a gentleman did come and close the window as we thought it was broken! There we dead months on the window sill and carpet. So not the greatest experience at all. Good job we only stayed all of 10 hours. Im sure its lovely but just our experience was not good, happy to return and amend the review if it was free and a better experience!! Maybe i was very unlucky:-(
