The Blackwell Grange Hotel makes a spectacular first impression as you approach the building down the sweeping driveway. Located in Darlington, County Durham, the gorgeous building with a Georgian façade, stands proudly amidst nine acres of charming countryside.
The Blackwell Grange was original built as a private residence by the Allan family. The building’s construction began in 1663 and was completed in 1717. Now a wonderful hotel, The Blackwell Grange has experienced a long and fascinating life so far.
The outstanding grounds and striking interiors – including a grand Georgian staircase – provide the stunning backdrops for your treasured wedding photographs.
There are two fantastic function suites for your wedding celebrations. The Jacobean Suite has stunning high ceilings with original oak beams. The suite can accommodate up to 140 day guests and 200 for the evening. Alternatively, the George Allan Suite has the capacity for 80 day guests and 130 evening guests. The room has distinct traditional décor, overlooks the beautiful gardens, and has direct access to the Wedding Gazebo on the grounds.
The Gazebo is situated in the heart of the garden and is licensed to hold civil ceremonies. The glorious outdoor setting provides the perfect atmosphere in which to say “I do”.
We hold Wedding Open Evenings every month, so please feel free to pop along! When you visit, you can see the suites dressed and laid out for a wedding celebration. Open Evenings are on the last Thursday of the month and run from 6pm to 7:30pm.

February 2025I always have a great time photographing a weddings at Blackwell Grange! The building itself is stunning, with its big windows, gorgeous chandeliers, and loads of natural light (which is always a win for photos!). If you want a venue with a bit of history, stunning backdrops, and a welcoming atmosphere, Blackwell Grange is a solid choice. Can’t wait to be back for another wedding! 📸

February 2025Fantastic place. A little far from the train station so best to take enough time to walk to or book a taxi, about a 30 minute walk. Once there though, it's beautiful, staff are lovely, food is really good. Very peaceful.

February 2025My company booked this for me as a 1-night stop over at a last-minute budget rate on-line, I think they paid sub-£100. My room was “okay”, looking at other people’s reviews I’m assuming I stayed in one of the less posh rooms as it had clearly been recently renovated but to a budget. Maybe they have a selection set-by for internet-bargains! Aimee on reception was very accommodating, with a very pleasant manor making sure I was looked after. Exactly the sort of person you’d want to be greeted by at a nice hotel. I ate in the bar which is nice area to relax of an evening. I had the Chicken Parmo which I have to say was excellent. Very tasty. Prices of food surprisingly reasonable. The window in my room opens a few inches so it’s nice to be able to get fresh air in. I would stay here again.
