Smeetham Hall Barn is traditionally 16th century and has been transformed into one of the top wedding venues in Essex.
Located in the Belchamp picturesque countryside, Smeetham Hall Barn is surrounded by stunning grounds. The gardens, complete with a willow bordered lake, provide an ideal backdrop for your wedding photography.
The Barn is fully licensed for civil ceremonies and it offers the perfect, country setting for making your vows followed by your wedding breakfast and evening celebrations.
We offer either a package at amazing prices or, if you would like a little more flexibility with your menu, you may choose the ‘venue-only’ hire. You then choose one caterer from our list of six.
We are also very happy for you to provide your own alcohol/soft drinks for the day. The caterers will serve these for you. There is NO corkage charge.
The Barn, for a Saturday wedding, is available to you from 9am on the Friday until midday on the Sunday.
The Barn has a large dancefloor with the bar close by!
Smeetham Hall Barn is a wonderful wedding venue for all seasons (the Barn and the marquee are heated to an ambient temperature) and can accommodate small, intimate weddings or more extravagant celebrations of up to 150 guests for the wedding breakfast.
Whilst the venue boasts a truly stunning countryside location, there are excellent transport links making it easy to travel to and from London, Hertfordshire, Suffolk and Kent.

March 2025Our wonderful wedding… Smeetham Hall Barn was the perfect venue for us. It was the only venue we viewed and an easy decision - it had everything we were looking for. It certainly lived up to our hopes and dreams. The barn and setting are naturally beautiful, without requiring loads of additional decoration. Their twinkly fairy lights set the scene perfectly. Having so many scenic spots for a variety of photograph opportunities is ideal. Our experience from booking to our big day was seamless. We were always kept informed and knew we’d hear back quickly if we had any queries. Sophie helped so much behind the scenes to ensure everything went to plan, she consistently eased any neves and went above and beyond for us. Splinters the caterers who are included within our wedding package were brilliant. The wedding breakfast was delicious and all our guests were very complimentary. Thank you to all at Smeetham Hall Barn and Splinters for being part of our perfect day. We loved every second and will forever hold the fondest memories 🤍
