A bar, hotel, event space & restaurant situated in the heart of Reading town centre near Reading Train Station. Designed to impress the Market House, once an historic Lloyds Bank, has been transformed into an industrial chic venue with bars, food kitchen, hotel rooms & plenty of spaces to hire for both private parties & corporate events.

A secret garden, a hidden treasure with a custom made electric glass roof which opens up – creating a real sun trap! This was the main Vault to the bank and we have kept all the original features, walls and vault door, it really is a pretty special place.

Really nice place in the centre of Reading. I've stayed here a few times over the last few years. Currently their lift is out of order and I've been placed on the lowest floor (for my convenience, I guess). That floor is obviously closest to the bar downstairs so sometimes you can hear a little bit of noise, but never more than a really faint sound and nothing that's stopped me sleeping.

The Market House is Reading staple for a night out. They have great entertainment like a karaoke booth and shuffleboard. Plus a lovely roof terrace for the rare occasion we get sun. The food is really good but more easy snacking than a dining experience.

Nice area, good beers and absolute lovely hotelrooms. Well sound isolated, you don't hear the bar downstairs. Good (rain)shower and comfortable bed. The only thing negative is that there is no breakfast served. But across the street there is a Gregg's that offers very fine opportunities for breakfast and I can imagine that this will be cheaper.

Check in was simple, can be loud on Friday and Saturday night as it's a bar, however staff are helpful and clear. The room was very well set out, with fairly effective and very quiet air-conditioning, and the bathroom was huge considering the price, including a very luxurious shower. The bed was very comfortable, with a huge flatscreen perfect distance and height away. Tea and coffee provided as well as a lager. The major downside is the lack of a view, my room was looking into a graffiti covered dilapidated building. Additionally, the buildings surrounding are covered in scaffolding. Shop almost next door as well, meaning if you don't mind the view, the market house is a very good value comfortable hotel that I can highly recommend.

BE AWARE WHEN BOOKING: many of the cosy and comfy room options do not have a windows. They essentially have frosted glass panels in which little light can enter the room with no way to open them to let fresh air in. It’s unclear whether these glass panels actually face the outside of the building or whether they are simply decorative with lights behind to create a illusion of a window. This is not advertised on their website or third party booking sites. When this was mentioned to reception staff they stated that this was “reflected in the price of the room” and were unwilling to provide any further assistance. This was a terrible shame as the location is brilliant and the decoration of the hotel is lovely. We would not have booked the room had we known this was the case. On a positive note the hotel was spotless so clearly the cleaning staff are very competent and they seemed friendly in passing! The same cannot be said for the reception staff. We did not visit the bar on this particular visit but seemed lively! Certainly the top floor of the hotel was soundproofed from the bar but I am unsure about the first floor. All in all I would suggest to ask at point of booking for a room with a functioning window otherwise you will be in a, albeit well decorated, prison cell.
