The Pen and Pencil sits on the corner of Hilton and Tariff Street in Manchester’s lively Northern Quarter. Our bar and eatery is open seven days a week from 10am ’til late.
We take our name and inspiration from the infamous mid-20th Century bar on East 45th Street in New York’s ‘Steak Row’ which was popular with newspaper journalists and ad men – the original ‘Mad Men’.
Looking for a late night party? Our team of resident DJs are on hand on Friday and Saturday nights to get the party started every weekend. Plus we offer private hire for networking meetings, private parties and launch events.
Our private room is available 7 days a week, comes with its own exclusive bar, screen and projector and can accommodate up to 70 guests. Full venue hire is available on selected days - capacity is 200 guests.
We have a number of food options available to suit all tastes, budgets and dietary requirements including sliders, canapés and a 3-course menu.

For any cancellations made at least 2-weeks before an event, we will refund your deposit in full. For any cancellations made later than that, no refund will be due.

January 2025Nice bar but don’t come for the food.. had the small plates- onion rings bone cold, chicken pink and bloody, and the cheese in the poppers was dry. Felt like everything had been keeping warm all day and just brought out for us on order.
