Was over for a few days between Christmas & New Years. Very handy location. Ideally located just beside the tube station making getting around London that bit easier. Staff were excellent and very helpful. The room was so cool, from the swivel mirror to the slide doors really nicely designed. Clean and comfortable throughout. They had loads of gluten free options to eat in the restaurant side of things. I will definitely be back.

We often stay for a weekend at this hotel. Every member of staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful, and always with a smile. The rooms have a really nice style, with a decent air conditioning system, and are always beautifully clean, and well equipped with bathroom accessories, tea, coffee and biscuits, and usually an ironing board and iron (but if not, you can always get these on request). It’s a reasonably priced hotel in a great location and it’s always consistently excellent. We will definitely be back.

This was our second stay and it was just as lovely as the first time. The staff were helpful, the breakfast was very good with a large variety to choose from. The bedroom was tastefully decorated and the amenities were amazing. The bed was so comfortable! Will definitely be back again and it’s right next to the underground so the location is perfect.

Despite being a four-star hotel, it feels quite under-serviced. The coffee bar downstairs wasn’t working, there were no in-room amenities—not even water—and basic supplies like toothbrushes and toothpaste weren’t provided. When I called to ask, I was simply told to buy them myself. The service was also lacking. The staff weren’t particularly welcoming, and check-in felt disorganized—I wasn’t sure who to approach. When I inquired about check-out time, I was told 11 AM, and when I asked about a late check-out at 12 PM, I received an immediate ‘no’ without any effort to check availability or offer an alternative. Another major issue was noise. For a relatively new hotel, the sound insulation is poor—I was constantly woken up by noise from neighboring rooms and the hallway throughout my three-night stay. Breakfast was fine but not as impressive as some reviews suggested—just standard hotel fare. While the location is near a bus and metro stop, it’s tricky to find at first since it’s tucked between buildings, which could be inconvenient for travelers with luggage. Overall an average, borderline disappointing stay, but the hotel serves its basic purpose, yet I wouldn’t recommend it or return. For the price, there are much better options in the area.

I booked (via Wowcher) an overnight stay at Clayton Hotel City of London. This was, without a doubt, the worst hotel I’ve ever been to. I can’t believe they charge £100+ per night for two people—it’s absolutely not worth the price, and I wouldn’t recommend anyone spend their money here. The room itself was a huge letdown. The décor was uninspiring, the space was small, and it felt outdated despite this hotel being fairly new. My daughter even commented that she prefers her own bedroom, which she’s never said about a hotel before. The only thing I liked about the room was the Japanese-style sliding doors, but beyond that, nothing felt remotely luxurious. The room was full of dents, marks, and scratches, making it clear that refurbishment is badly needed. The cleanliness was unacceptable. Neither my daughter nor I felt comfortable using the shower because the shower base was dirty, scuffed, and had hairs on it. For a supposed four-star hotel, this is completely unacceptable. We also didn’t receive any complimentary gowns or slippers, which you’d expect from a hotel in this price range. The TV image quality and signal was poor, making it frustrating to watch anything. Sound insulation was also non-existent—my daughter and I could hear strange noises from the plumbing, other guests using their showers and toilets, and even the sound of motorbikes outside. We decided not to eat dinner or have drinks at the cocktail bar because the pricing didn’t match the look and feel of the hotel—it simply didn’t seem worth it. Breakfast was the best part of our stay, with a wide selection of food, including eggs, baked beans, hash browns, cereal, pastries, granola, yogurt, fruit, and smoothies. However, my daughter had an upset stomach just 20 minutes after eating, which was concerning. To top everything off, from 10:50 to 11:00 AM, a horrific smell filled the hotel. I believe a company was cleaning or pumping out the drains outside, and the stench was unbearable. Both my daughter and I were groaning and moaning as we were suffering. Goodness gracious, it was that bad. Overall, our experience was absolutely disappointing and quite disgusting. This is essentially a 2-star hotel disguised as a 4-star one.
