This historic venue was the first in the country to screen moving images after opening in 1896. As the ‘birthplace of British cinema’, it’s an obvious choice for screenings, but also lends itself to product launches, conferences and awards ceremonies. Recently refurbished in a modern art-deco style, there are options to host in the auditorium, plus the smaller bar and foyer for standing events. The bar is stocked with local craft beers and fine wines, and can offer snacks as well as tailored catering. While the venue’s curfew is 11pm, its central location close to Oxford Circus means there’s plenty of options for those wanting to keep the party going.

January 2025This cinema was the first to show moving footage in the UK and has thoughtfully restored to retain this former glory. The theatre design gives great views from almost all the seats. Tickets are super affordable. Soft and alcoholic drinks on offer. Really impressed.

February 2025Very impressed with this cinema. Beautiful Grade II listed building and so ornate inside. The rows ascend very steeply so no chance of a big head in front of you. Comfortable seats, good sound quality, but best of all a licensed bar and cheap matinee tickets. Unfortunately there were 2 ladies looking at their phones throughout the film. Before film starts no reminder to turn off phones so perhaps that’s why.

March 2025Regent Street is a must in terms of the history of the city as the cinema featured the first motion picture shown in the United Kingdom. Highly recommend you going just to see it, really feels like stepping back in time, they have a great selection of independent films and they play old movies as well, this however, doesn’t mean you won’t find the classic studio films. It’s a great place right in the heart of central. You have a variety of drink options both alcohol and alcohol free. They don’t do fresh popcorn unfortunately
