For a start there’s the building, a beautiful old town hall, whose 80 rooms have seen so much over the years. Now that we are an arts centre, people come here to be creative, see a show, explore local heritage, visit the Scratch Bar, play or relax.

We invite you in to watch early versions of shows, to hear your feedback. We call this Scratch. Finished shows can use any room in the building, from the attic to the artists’ bedrooms to the Council Chamber.

We are open all day for anyone to explore. Children and adults can play together in our indoor playspace, The Bees Knees or enjoy our monthly fun-filled Family Saturdays. Young people come here after school to develop their creativity, confidence and enterprising ideas. We also celebrate the rich heritage of our building and the local area through events and discussions.

Beautifully restored by architects Haworth Tompkins following a re in 2015, our Victorian Grand Hall is a stunning space for corporate events. Flooded with natural daylight and with original features from its rich 125 year history, it is ideal for hosting inspiring product launches, networking receptions, conferences and meetings. With an advanced technical capacity and AV infrastructure, it can deliver innovative events like never before.

The Grand Hall has its own private entrance with guests arriving into the adjoining Octagonal Hall, with its mosaic floor and stained glass-domed ceiling - an ideal space to host welcome drinks and coffee breaks.
