The Montcalm at the Brewery wears its quirky heritage with pride, an award-winning transformation from historic brewery to handsome five star hotel. With period features at every turn, it stays faithful to its past as the eighteenth century base of Whitbread & Co, but it’s also every inch the twenty-first century hotel you’d expect of a superbly central City of London location. A refreshing blend of elegance and informality, it’s the ideal urban retreat, welcoming wide-eyed explorers and time-pressed business travellers alike to the true heart of London.

Named after the man himself - brewing legend Samuel Whitbread, this expansive ground floor space has floor to ceiling windows overlooking the old brewery's courtyard itself an interesting possibility for break-outs or al fresco eating (subject to events at The Brewery).

We had a wonderful stay at the Montcalm Brewery Hotel for our wedding and were so impressed by the genuine kindness of the reception and housekeeping staff who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was extra special. We were able to organise special requests for our stay in advance and the staff were happy to accommodate further requests during our stay. All of the staff really added to the excitement of our stay and I'd like to specifically thank Alok for all of his help and Corinna and her team for setting up our room beautifully. Thanks also to Alexandra S for ensuring everything was set up for the bridal suite. We are so happy we had such a wonderful experience. The quality of the hotel was lovely and the breakfast was one of, if not the best hotel breakfast I've ever had! Thank you all for a lovely stay.

I recently stayed for a week at 'Montcalm at The Brewery' Hotel with my family, and I would highly recommend it for anyone visiting the area. From the moment I arrived, the staff went above and beyond to ensure my stay was exceptional. The rooms are comfortable and beautifully appointed. Make sure you get breakfast, as it's truly excellent. A special thank you to Ramona, who made my experience unforgettable. Her attention to detail and warm hospitality truly set this stay apart. She was always available with a friendly smile, helping with recommendations and making sure we had everything we needed. Thank you, and see you soon!

American, female, solo traveler here. I'm delivering this review very late (Oct. 2024), as my stay was in early July 2024. I really like this hotel and, while it's not a 5-star, it is a solid 4-star. I loved my room (#510), which is perfect for a solo traveler. It reminded me of a cool attic. I especially loved that the room had a bathtub (which I’d requested) and huge windows in the bathroom! (Plus, a good-sized window at the opposite end of the room, so I felt the room had good light.) The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and room service appeared to be prompt (but I only ordered wine, so I can’t speak to food delivery). CONS: (1) My room overlooked the courtyard where many social events/receptions were held during my 5 days there, so sometimes it got a little noisy (no biggie though); (2) some electrical sockets in the room didn’t work (annoying!); and (3) the heated towel rack in the bathroom didn’t work. (I suggest the staff just remove the heated rack if they don’t plan to activate the rack. Otherwise, it gives the impression that the room is full of broken stuff rather than amenities.) Great teas in the room (I actually ended up ordering the same tea online when I returned the US.) Very nice robes, too. (The pocket was torn/hanging on the first robe when I arrived, and when I reported it to the front desk they brought me a replacement robe pretty quickly.) Easy access for Uber and the bus (I caught the bus home from the Tower Bridge area, and the bus dropped me off directly in front of the Montcalm -- very convenient!) Tube station (to get to Big Ben/Clock Tower/London Eye/Abbey) was not close to the Montcalm (walking), but not too far either. Finally, the staff was polite. I loved how they’ll bring coffee to you in the lobby, so you can chill in the lobby (cozy and unique) if you don’t want to walk to your room :) Overall a sweet experience, and I would definitely stay at the Montcalm Brewery again!

I stayed for about a week for a work trip. I’m not sure how this place got anything over three stars. The positive: good location to my office and most of the staff is genuinely nice. But after ~11pm, service is inconsistent. The negative: the rooms are so dated, walls are dingy, the towel warmer or the DND lights do not work. Which led the biggest issue: the first night, the house keeper knocked on our door, we didn’t realize the do not disturb sign wasn’t working so we politely declined. They wouldn’t go away. Finally I got up and asked them to come back tomorrow. Then in the dead of sleep the following day, they come in without knocking while I wasn’t clothed. I screamed at them to leave, and they kept asking if I needed towels or sheets. I called the front desk immediately and asked for a do not disturb sign. 3 days later, they come in again while I was in the dead of sleep and unclothed. Obviously extremely disturbing on many levels. I spoke with the manager who initially offered me a free dinner. It ended with a series of back and forth where he eventually agreed to compensate me for one night. He said the housekeeper claimed the DND sign was on the floor — wouldn’t you take a little precaution knowing we raised the issue of housekeeping a few days early?! Anyway, this place is not worth the headache. It’s not well run or maintained — funky sewer smells in the hallways.. never staying here again.

Do not stay here! Upon arrival we found a stool in the toilet. We were told we had a room with 3 single beds which turned out to be misrepresented. We approached management and they said they would rectify this situation with a new bed immediately and then upgrade to a better room the next day. Neither of which happened. On our last night a small uncomfortable cot bed was delivered but so uncomfortable had to use the couch again which was very small. No matter how many times your call reception, room service nobody ever picks up the phone. Pretty shabby rooms for the price you pay and there is no way this is a 5 star hotel. Laughable. Very disappointed.
