We booked to stay at the Falcondale to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary and wanted a treat. We were not disappointed! Our first floor room was very comfortable, classically furnished, bright, clean and with everything we needed. The bed was large (twin beds joined) and had a topper to make it even more comfortable, we both slept well. Tea and coffee making facilities were included as well as toiletries. We pre-ordered champagne and chocolates for our arrival that were handmade and delicious, melt in the mouth. There was a good choice of breakfasts available that were made to order freshly. We had an omelette on the first morning, porridge the next, and vegetarian breakfast on the last. It was all delicious and portions were generous but not excessive, perfect! We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and we were well looked after by the waiting staff. The menu was limited for vegetarians but what we ate (mushroom stroganoff and butternut squash risotto) was excellent, full of flavour. If I had to make one criticism it would be that our starter, a caprese salad, was far too cold, the tomatoes would be so much more flavoursome if they were kept at room temperature. Overall we had a wonderful time, the gardens are beautiful and the hotel is set in quiet grounds about a twenty minute walk from the town of Lampeter. It was a good base for exploring the area, and we went to New Quay, Tenby and Laugharne during our short stay. The staff at the hotel were attentive but not overbearing, friendly but professional, and very welcoming. Our dog was also made to feel welcome, a bed, blanket and towel were provided in the bedroom, as well as food and water bowls, and gravy bone treats. He was given a sausage every morning at breakfast in his very own bowl!
