February 2025Beautiful hotel merging luxury with history as the former Scotsman Newspaper building, iconic part of Edinburghs heritage. Amazing room and views. The whole atmosphere is so relaxed and staff give impeccable service. Highly recommend.

January 2025Magnificent! We booked for Christmas Day lunch at The Scotsman Hotel. I also wanted to propose to my girlfriend at the same time so I contacted the Hotel and spoke to Emma-Rose Beaumont to see if they could help. She was absolutely brilliant. I made my own crackers, one with the ring in, and posted them to the hotel a month before the day. She kindly stored them in the safe until the day and briefed the staff, who all played along with the secret. We agreed that the crackers would be brought out as a promotional prize, just after the starter. Our server, Adi, played his part brilliantly. He even filmed the opening of the cracker and my proposal. She said yes, BTW. As well as being so helpful in putting on such a special day, the lunch was excellent. Compliments to the Chef for getting out so many covers of such high quality on a busy day. The atmosphere was great, and the entertainment perfect for the occasion. Thank you once again to everyone who helped create such a special memory. We will definitely be returning.

January 2025Beautiful hotel in a great central location. We only stayed two nights but thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. The architecture is stunning, the bedroom was lovely with excellent attention to detail, and the breakfast was sublime. Staff all quietly professional. Tiniest complaint was they’d sold out of Mussels in the Grand Cafe by 7pm 😢

February 2025This hotel is situated close to both the old town and new town. About 100 yards from the Royal Mile and 200 yards from Princess Street, it's an excellent base for site seeing or shopping. The staff are friendly and obliging. The rooms are spotlessly clean and we've really enjoyed our stay. Queenie, the front of house manager has been brilliant and strives to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Breakfast is excellent catering for all tastes, and dinner in the Grande Cafe was equally as good. We will come back.

February 2025Opulent decor very impressed on entry to this stunning hotel which was located in a central location, which was great for accessing all tourist attractions. Plenty of bars, restaurants near by to suit all tastes! Our room was lovely, clean, very modern and the complimentary water, whisky, biscuits was a nice touch as were the toiletries. Breakfast was plentiful, lots of choice and readily available. My husband said it was one of the nicest breakfasts he’s had when traveling! The cost of £22.50 was included in my overall cost therefore I didn’t feel this was too expensive. If you wanted to book room only there are plenty of places nearby where you could purchase breakfast a lot cheaper than at the hotel. I read previous reviews re the service from staff at the hotel some were positive, some neutral. In my opinion the staff were polite but didn’t really engage in conversation, I didn’t feel valued as a guest, no warm welcome and I walked past the concierge several times during my stay, no acknowledgement given, his computer screen was more interesting 😢. We had a few issues in our room, squeaky door, lack of connectivity to the TV which we reported and was quickly resolved however the mini bar wasn’t which was a pity as we would have bought some of drinks available! We ate at the Grand Cafe on our first night, again impressive surroundings, the staff were friendly and service was good and the food was lovely however we chose to go again on our last night, chose our food, which took us over half hour to decide only to be told they didn’t have what we ordered which was annoying at the time as we had ordered starters and drinks. Maybe checking with the kitchen prior to taking orders would have been an advantage! If you’re looking for a central location, nice breakfast, modern clean room in grandeur surroundings I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would have rated 5/5 if the staff had been a tad friendlier and if they hadn’t tried to charge us for breakfast twice which had been paid for via our tour operator when the holiday was booked.
