Lovely old hotel with great features. We both had champagne afternoon tea before attending an event in their marque just next to the hotel. Their afternoon tea was very tasty. The hotel has some really lovely furniture. There isn't a bus stop nearby so either a 15min walk from the nearest bus stop or a taxi is the only option to visit this great hotel.

My friends and I visited for just an hour for drinks. I can’t speak to the rooms or anything else really, but the gentleman at the front door was the the nicest, friendliest, and most professional individual. He had a slightly reddish beard. Always nice to be treated so kindly especially when we were obviously tourists unfamiliar with the area. For him alone I will give the service 5 stars.

Excellent all round. Beautiful location and building. Friendly, efficient, and attentive staff. Excellent service throughout. Food top quality, and the restaurant has a lovely ambiance. Complimentary treats in the room was appreciated by all.

Had fabulous tea seated at the window where we observed the peacock. Our antique teapot leaked and added a bit of excitement. The tea selection is excellent, and the sandwiches and cakes are superb. The tomato-basil cheesecake was scrumptious.

Not quite what we expected! We were lucky to discover this venue last year for some memorable fringe events and a lovely meal in the Rhubarb restaurant in Prestonfield House. We decided to stop for a few nights this year on our annual visit. Prestonfield house is a very grand hotel with rooms of exceptional standards. After checking in we decided to have a game of cards in the front drawing room. As we entered we were aghast that we were sharing the room with some 2 large Alsatians. We could not complain about their behaviour but as it had been raining the room had a distinct “dog” aroma, unfortunately it did not stop there; their owners had enjoyed an afternoon tea and allowed one of their plates. If you are a dog owner then this may appear normal practise but not for us as guests of one of the most prestigious hotels in Edinburgh; just as dogs left in their room this morning barking whilst their owners had breakfast. The FOOD .. Breakfast on the first morning , I thought it was strange how we were not offered water or fresh juice, the Greek Yogurt, rhubarb, fresh fruit , nuts and seeds was gorgeous; the traditional breakfast again was lovely; the veggie breakfast, the veggie sausage, haggis , black pudding was rather dry- My wife’s avocado on toast was unfortunately over powered by lemon however this morning she opted for sliced avocado.. and we were offered freshly squeezed orange, grapefruit or a rhubarb juice shot.. they were amazing. We did encounter a few 15 minute delays when ordering drinks in the seated reception area; I was so kindly offered a coffee from the friendly receptionist one afternoon however 20 minutes later I proceeded to make my own in the room ! it appeared a few minutes later. The food again did not disappoint on our meal in the Rhubarb restaurant last night I did email the management about our “pet issues” however they declined to comment, - They did comment to another email checking if our incredibly silent extractor fan;that they confirmed it was working. OVERALL - Would we stop again? - sad to say -definitely not
