This striking Category B listed pink sandstone church was converted into a theatre in the 1960s and over nearly 50 years has gained an established reputation as one of Scotland’s leading non-professional theatres. As well as being home to many of Edinburgh’s amateur theatrical companies, it is a popular venue for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Church Hill Theatre is owned by the City of Edinburgh Council and managed by the Assembly Rooms team. Full of character and history, the venue has been refurbished and is available for event hire where performance programming allows. The traditional auditorium is ideal for Theatre performances, concerts, demonstrations, talks and small conferences.

January 2025A lovely sized little theatre. Allows you to get up close and personal with the cast. Nice bar area too.

January 2025My son and I attended the Kevin Quantum Christmas matinee on 30/12/24. My son has Autism and some sensory issues . The staff ( Catherine and Ann ) were amazing. Catherine took us round the theatre beforehand to explain where everything was to my son and made sure he was comfortable. At the break she came over to check he was okay and coping with everything. I cannot thank them enough for their help in making sure he enjoyed the show . 10/10 !!
