This striking Category B listed pink sandstone church was converted into a theatre in the 1960s and over nearly 50 years has gained an established reputation as one of Scotland’s leading non-professional theatres. As well as being home to many of Edinburgh’s amateur theatrical companies, it is a popular venue for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Church Hill Theatre is owned by the City of Edinburgh Council and managed by the Assembly Rooms team. Full of character and history, the venue has been refurbished and is available for event hire where performance programming allows. The traditional auditorium is ideal for Theatre performances, concerts, demonstrations, talks and small conferences.

First time at this venue. Saw the 'Outrun production. Absolutely amazing. I really enjoyed it. marvellous production. Great place and has a wee bar.

A great little theatre away from the crowds in the city centre, but very easy to reach by public transport. The interior is a little shabby, but good space between the rows of seats.

A good theatre but confusing as to where to go. We entered and it had all the appearance of a nice pub, but how to get upstairs to the theatre seats was a mystery, lots of people milling around may have covered any signs and the staff were vague about where to queue, or even if we had to queue, or even which direction to face. Nobody seemed to stress about this and we all managed to get there in the end without incident. It was all good.
