Lumley Castle was without doubt the right venue for our wedding and we are really pleased we chose it. Everything ran smoothly on the day, it’s a venue with a lot of experience of weddings and they know what they are doing. David was our Co-ordinator on the day and he was great, helpful, nothing was too much trouble and it felt like he really cared about everything running smoothly. We booked the Scarbrough room for our ceremony and the Baron Suite for the reception. It was lovely to have the two options for the two elements of our day. The Baron Suite is really quirky - if you book it and go for table flowers I recommend utilising the candelabras, we did and they looked fab with trailing flowers arranged by our florist. Emma and Holly were excellent in terms of the planning, very helpful, knew their stuff and were very responsive. One of the things I found stressful with wedding planning was when suppliers didn’t get back very promptly but that was never an issue with Lumley. Always consistent in terms of communication. Price wise, we went with the sapphire package and it felt reasonable for what we got, our guests loved the food. There wasn’t much negotiation on price for things, some prices/pricing strategies were set in stone. So if you are looking for a lot of negotiation price wise then this may not be the venue for you. However I don’t know that other venues are big on negotiation either. If you want to get married somewhere that’s extremely picturesque for photos, quirky for guests and with staff who genuinely are lovely then I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Lumley Castle. We had a brilliant day and our chosen venue was definitely part of this.

We recently stayed overnight for a birthday celebration, and it was fabulous. The Elizabethan banquet was a highlight, with fantastic food and superb entertainment that really added to the atmosphere. The hotel itself is steeped in history, with an ambiance that takes you back in time. Our room was incredibly comfortable, especially the bed, which made for a restful night’s sleep. The breakfast the next morning was lovely with a vast selection to choose from—truly something for everyone. The staff were exceptional: polite, friendly, and very knowledgeable, which made us feel well taken care of. All in all, a fantastic experience that I’d highly recommend!

Beautiful setting in a tranquil and quiet area. The staff were very friendly, courteous and polite. The room was clean and well presented. The decor was age appropriate which added to the fact you are staying in a stately home/castle. You're given free access to roam the premises which is a must especially at dusk or in the dark as you may just witness lady lumley the resident ghost We only had breakfast as the dinner menu did not appeal to us but the breakfast food was a strong 7/10. Overall our 2 night stay was an experience we will never forget and given the opportunity, we would definitely return.

Afternoon tea was awful. The cheapest bread with some crusts left on. Nearly all cheese savoury. Scones too dry and stodgie Too much thick pastry . Who puts choc slop in a tart. All just similar tasts.choc.or vanilla. Cheese tart was like chunks of wood. Will never go again. Advertised on Virgin for £45 for 2. I was charged £55-50.

Quaint hotel in a historic castle. Nice little areas to explore in the Castle including lounges, library, haunted well etc. Rooms are comfy but chilly without ability to regulate heating individually, and no sound proofing! Curiously the breakfast required selecting from very limited and inconvenient time slots, and wasn't really worth waiting for the 10h15 slot, as the service was poor, and we had to move on to other commitments. Nice one off experience but unlikely to return.

Just been for afternoon tea and don't think we'll be going back again for another afternoon tea. It was our 3rd time we'd had afternoon tea at the castle. It was not worth the money. Previous times the standards were much higher the setting was lovely as always, staff were brilliant, but the afternoon tea was very average and definitely not worth the money, another thing that I thought was poor was the £18 extra we were charged for a tiny mince pie and some mulled wine we both didn't want or enjoy. So to sum up we ended up spending over £60 for a very average afternoon tea, definitely be going somewhere else for afternoon tea next time.
