The Oakfield is where it all began for the zoo, serving as our pioneering founder George Mottershead's family home. Beautifully restored and renovated in 2018, The Oakfield retains many stunning original features like the intricate wood panelling in the Library and the sumptuous luxury of the Boardroom.
Since then, The Oakfield has had many uses from a family home to an aquarium, before becoming a stunning Grade II listed wedding venue. Today, the building’s original structure has been retained, and its original features preserved.
Our spaces in The Oakfield are set apart from the rest of The Oakfield so you are ensured privacy for your events, while still allowing you flexibility to use the whole venue if you wish. Our zoological gardens provide an inspirational backdrop for successful meetings.
From our private meeting rooms upstairs, to larger spaces in The Library or Garden Room, The Oakfield can cater to meetings of all sizes. Inspire your team in state-of-the-art meeting rooms, or let the stunning surroundings of the zoo impress your clients.
Our upstairs meeting spaces are perfect for meetings, training and presentations. Fully equipped with all the AV equipment and connectivity you might need, our meeting and event suites feature large windows looking out over lawns (and some animals!)

February 2025A really good day out. Visited in February with our 4 and 6 year old and spent a good 5 hours walking around. The restaurant was extremely busy at lunchtime but that's to be expected, otherwise everything else was great and would happily go again.

February 2025Such a beautiful zoo. You can see the care given to the animals and the upgrades to their environment over the years is wonderful to see. Went in February and got the best views of the big cats that we’ve had over the last 12 months.

March 2025Really loved this place. It was so lovely seeing all the animals. Particularly with them all being so happy and content in their lovely enclosures. A few of the animals really played with the audience. The gibbon which was my favourite animal. Kept swinging towards the glass. Pressing his hand against the glass it was like he was trying to get attention from the crowd. The enclosures were really lovely. I have been to zoo's before where the animals didn't look happy. This zoo though they did. Its great the work they are doing. It was very clean and I thought it was great value for money. Parking is free and we even took at picnic which is also allowed. I couldn't help but stop at the gift shop on my way out. I would highly recommend this zoo.

March 2025Had a wonderful day. especially loved the lemur walk through, getting up close to the lemurs. Wish there was more signage, even if was just the general direction of the coloured zones. And more paper version maps available. The snow leopard coming up close to the window was another highlight
