November 2024Lovely building in a lovely area, the staff sometimes seem a little stretched but are clearly all working very hard to give everyone the best experience. The best advice I can give is to make sure you book the grade of room you want. We had a similar experience to others with an initial lackluster room despite everything else being wonderful, however Paul and his colleagues arranged a free upgrade for our second night and went to great lengths to make our short stay positively memorable. The restaurants are pleasant and the food very tasty, with a good range. The grounds are very pleasant as are the buildings themselves.

November 2024Tortworth is a lovely hotel to go and relax. The staff are incredible and the location is perfect for unwinding. They have events there, which can tend to unofficially ‘take over’ the hotel, but once you get past that if there is an event on then you can enjoy everything the hotel has to offer. The library bar can while away the hours as it did us with a good book in a beautiful setting. The hotel is dog friendly too, which is good. Although for breakfast you won’t be able to dine with your pooch in the main restaurant, but you’ll be located in either the library adjacent to the restaurant or the other bar a short walk from the restaurant. It’s a short drive from the m5 in a peaceful part of the country. There is a nearby village five minutes drive away with a few pubs. We didn’t get a chance to go for a walk, but there are a few nearly where you can really enjoy the countryside. There wasn’t a lot of choice on the menu for veggies or vegans which surprised us. Although to be fair we didn’t ask if the hotel could cater for either, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did as all the staff are super helpful and approachable. They were putting Christmas decorations up as we were leaving, and we suspect this is a great place to enjoy Christmas as it is a really cosy lovely place. Well worth a visit

January 2025The location, the manor house and the surrounding area are absolutely stunning. That’s exactly what you would want in a country escape in the Cotswolds. Unfortunately there were a couple of negatives. Firstly, cleanliness. On arrival the rooms were not well cleaned, with stains on the bed sheet and dirt on the bathroom floor. The rooms were also incredibly dusty, causing my mum to have a bad allergic reaction and breathing issues. Secondly, housekeeping. The bed sheets weren’t changed in 3 days, nor were the towels and mugs. We also didn’t like the attitude of the staff at the reception - they were all unnecessarily aggressive towards all of the guests. Other than these few points, we loved our stay at the Tortworth. Breakfast was great, the bar staff were super friendly and the hotel itself is beautiful.

December 2024We just had a 2 night stay in a suite. Firstly all the restaurant and bar staff were very attentive and we enjoyed the festive afternoon tea. However when we got to the room we noticed the kettle smelt off and this took around 2 hours to replace which was a shame as we were unable to make hot drinks. The sofa was also obviously not cleaned at all and most of the button holes on it were filled with dirt and biscuit crumbs. Areas of the room were also not hoovered. The suite wasn't cheap and I would have hoped for it to be at least cleaned properly. So slightly disappointed in our stay. The rest of the hotel was nice though.

November 2024We stayed at Tortworth house for 1 night and unfortunately were very disappointed. We had paid £189 for 1 night, upon check in we were shown to our room - 146 and were left feeling deflated. We had a ‘wonderful’ view of a car park through some mildew covered net curtains, the carpet was heavy stained and the bathroom was very tired. I went on the website when in the room and could see we had been given a cheaper room - one which was £95 per night. I spoke with reception who advised I could move to a better room for a fee. We paid an extra amount to be moved to a junior suite which was lovely. We then went down for some drinks to find the library bar was closed and the other bar was only open for 30 minutes before it closed for an event. The food for dinner was very nice, but we waited 38 minutes for a dessert menu which never arrived and ended up just walking out the restaurant. The next morning we arrived at the restaurant for breakfast. There were no staff to seat us so we seated ourselves. The eggs tasted like powder and all in it was a very low grade spread for £20 per head. After this we swiftly left and unfortunately will not be returning.
