March 2024Stayed this weekend just gone, as we, (30 rail workers), were working in the area. From check-in to Check-out, nothing was a bother. Superb front of house staff, friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. I even popped to Tesco to buy some swim shorts and enjoyed the fantastic Pool, Sauna & Steam rooms. Food and service were excellent in the bar area, although our company allowance was stretched a bit!. We had a breakfast 'to go' arranged for us all weekend, but we asked if this could be changed at last minute, to a lunch sandwich instead. The Food & Beverage Manager went out of his way to organize this, and that was very much appreciated. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a great, relaxing stay.

April 2024The room I had was nice - little features like the sofa in the bay window made it really pleasant. The window opened for fresh air, but I think there was air con / heating if needed. The room was big with a desk & chair, that sofa plus a comfy chair with a little table. The bedside lights had normal USB sockets in their bases which was perfect for charging a phone overnight - something many hotels seem to only place near the desk now. The TV was huge and the bed was comfy with enormously thick pillows! There was a little kettle (very clean) plus a selection of tea (normal & herbal) and coffee with cups, spoons and a couple of biscuits in a little nook by the entrance door. The wardrobe was big with hangers provided and a built-in safe. An iron, ironing board and hairdryer were also tucked away in here too. The bathroom had plenty of surface to store all your usual bathroom items and there was a complimentary bar of soap, skin lotion and a shower cap. The shower over the bath was brilliantly powerful (always nice in a hotel) with shower gel, shampoo and conditioner supplied. Slightly annoyingly, these were fixed to the wall directly under the shower meaning if you're showering and trying to keep the splashing water within the small glass shower screen and not drenching the bathroom floor, these bottles fixed to the wall were just at the wrong height to keep nudging / elbowing. They could've been halfway along the bath to be easier. Overall, the room was absolutely fine and would also be for a much longer stay than one night. I've only given three stars for service based on our function because the bedrooms weren't ready when we arrived which they were planned to be, but I'm guessing getting 100+ rooms ready simultaneously isn't the easiest operation; the bar we had access to for the majority of the evening had a very limited range and the main bar we used late was only slightly better; the function rooms we were allocated were not suitable for the numbers planned, so some last minute room changes were made. Breakfast was good typical fayre but generally the food was disappointingly unexciting. Again, it may have been due to 100+ of us needing food at the same time, but if that is what is offered as a service, it seems odd to run out of lunch before everyone has got a meal. Generally, the place was nice, the staff approachable and the car park big, just maybe not suitable for a large event.
