March 2025The staff were absolutely fantastic, could not do more for us at breakfast service. The food was lovely, especially the evening steak. Would not recommend it enough. The price was really reasonable too. Lovely hotel and staff

April 2025Great experience here today. Stopped for a pub lunch after a Grindleford/Padley walking loop. Friendly welcome and outstanding service. Would recommend the club sandwich! Dog friendly too. Will be back to stay soon.

March 2025I've stayed at the Maynard a few times for both work and pleasure in the last few months. I really like it. It's a beautiful historic building in a lovely location in a wooded gorge. The rooms have historic details but have also been modernised thoughtfully with respect to their heritage. Some features are slightly tired, but only slightly and at the price point it's to be expected. There's also what looks like it would be a cracking beer garden in the summer with good views. The food is really good, and very reasonably priced. A slight case of ideas above its station sometimes (there's a scallop starter especially with what I think was a celeriac puree that didn't really work and was fairly meagre at the price point). There's also a good selection of cask ales which I appreciate. Staff were also helpful and friendly. There are two things I would improve: 1. It doesn't start breakfast until 8am. That's pretty late to start breakfast, when staying for work I had to leave earlier than that and whilst they were good with arranging for me to have breakfast earlier, this wasn't guaranteed and I had to miss out on breakfast altogether more than once. 2. I'd expect a hotel of this size to have an EV charging point.

March 2025We loved our stay at the Maynard. Great location for our needs, but not a lot to do nearby. No issue for us. Room was small but very well fitted out and comfortable with great views. Breakfast was spot on, drinks were good and well priced. All staff were fantastic. For a similar price to a Premier Inn, there is no comparison. We'd very happily revisit and recommend to friends, but would go for Superior room over standard for space.
