Nestled in an idyllic part of the Scottish Borders, Thirlestane Castle is a magnificent 16th century castle set in a meadow landscape. Family home to the Duke of Lauderdale, it is one of the oldest and finest castles in Scotland and still remains home to the Maitland family today.
Thirlestane Castle is available for weddings, corporate events, meetings, private dining and celebrations. Just 35 minutes south of Edinburgh it's easily accessible just off the A68.
This was once the coal cellars of Thirlestane Castle but is now a fantastic, atmospheric space with great acoustics that could be the perfect place for a music recital or whisky tasting. Level access available.

March 2025A really beautiful castle with a fascinating history. We had a brilliant guided tour from Eugene - so informative and entertaining. All the staff we ran into were so friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend a visit. We visited as a group of friends who work in heritage - and we wish our castle was as beautifully decorated! But ours is a little older!
