We went to a murder mystery weekend held at the hotel. The hotel had obviously been a private house at one time. The reception was very lovely. All dark panelling and reproduction wallpaper. As it was late November the hall/reception and stairs was dressed for Christmas and really added to our experience. The newer accommodation from the outside was not very prepossessing but having mounted the beautiful staircase off of the hall reception it was difficult to tell you had entered a newer area. The rooms were lovely. Beds comfortable. Large TV which we did not use. Tea and coffee facilities. The bathroom had shower/bath with screen although my sister in another room had an even more modern bathroom with a walk in shower. We had afternoon tea at which time the murder mystery began. There was plenty of finger sandwiches and scones with jam and clotted cream. More than could be eaten by the 9 people around our table. There were 8 tables of up to 10 people but food was served seamlessly. At the dinner in the evening we were served our pre chosen choices without fuss or delay and considering the numbers involved. The food was delicious and piping hot. Next day at breakfast we could help ourselves to fruit, cereals, croissants, toast and a cooked breakfast the choices for which were scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, potato cake and baked beans. The only complaint was that the plates were very cold. There was plenty of tea/coffee orange and apple juice. We ended our stay feeling that we had been royally treated

We came for a spa package, overall happy with our stay. The hotel and grounds are beautiful (esp as it was decorated for Christmas!) and all the staff we encountered from the reception to the restaurant to the spa were all really friendly and welcoming which was lovely. Spa - it was a really nice vibe, generally clean, changing rooms could have been cleaner. We had 25 minute massages booked, didn't get the full 25 mins (

Partner booked us in for a spa day, back massage and afternoon tea for my birthday. This place isn’t so much a spa as it is a small, very run down leisure centre. The grounds are nice but the wellness building is very run down. The men’s Changing rooms smelt really bad and was pretty dirty. The spa facilities consist of a nice pool but a tiny sauna and steam room facility. The deck chairs were all damaged and had exposed foam material which would be impossible to keep clean and sanitary. All the chairs looked dirty and unclean. My local leisure centre offers far more for a fraction of the price. The back massages were really nice and the masseuse was great however the relaxation room was filthy. Dust and dirt all under the seats and all the light fixtures and vents had visible rust all over - incredibly poor! I could also hear staff conversing fairly loudly which is not relaxing in the slightest. The afternoon tea was average. All the china was dirty and smudged and the food was either made to an incredibly basic level or clearly shop brought. For the price paid this was not worth it - if I had of paid for this myself I would have been reversing the transaction via my bank or trying to recoup most of the money from managerial staff. This is NOT a spa worth visiting. Staff were nice but let down hugely by the venue which was simply grubby. I couldn’t wait to leave.

My husband booked this as a birthday treat for me. I have to agree with the posts below sadly. The spa facilities are really tired - the lounge chairs by the pool are dirty and falling apart. The showers don't turn off properly in the ladies changing room. The bedroom was really small and covered in cobwebs. The staff were friendly but it didn't feel like a fancy treat away. In the restaurant the disinfectant sprays were sat on the table next to the menus. In my opinion - it's a great hotel if work are paying for you to stay there... but not value for money/a special experience if you're paying out of your own pocket. We won't be going back
