The Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich is London’s ultimate riverside wedding location, perfect at any time of year.
One of the most spectacular and iconic landmarks in London, this elegant ensemble of buildings offers you a choice of wedding experiences, from the awe-inspiring opulence of the famous Painted Hall (repoening late 2018 / early 2019), to the intimate ambience of the historic Admiral’s House. The famous buildings of the college that have dazzled visitors for centuries sit alongside the river with unrivalled views across to the City and Canary Wharf.
The vaulted Undercrofts and the Victorian Skittle Alley can also be hired to create your own personalized wedding event, guaranteed to delight your guests and create memories to treasure for a lifetime.
Marrying at the Old Royal Naval College gives you exclusive permission to take photographs in the grounds with the river and fine baroque architecture as a backdrop. You can also choose to arrive by boat, alighting at Greenwich Pier to create a dramatic, one-off photo opportunity. The Old Royal Naval College is breath-taking at any time of year. In the chilly days of winter the rich interiors are warm and welcoming. The classical buildings gleam and glisten in spring, and on warm summer evenings guests can enjoy an al fresco drink in the King William Colonnades. As autumn progresses, the gold, orange and russet hues of the trees add another layer of beauty to the location.
Couples who choose to marry at the Old Royal Naval College will be assigned their own wedding coordinator, supported by a team of experienced professionals who are dedicated to creating your very own fairy-tale wedding in one of the country’s most spectacular and historic places. Conserving the Painted Hall for generations of future brides and grooms.
In 2013 the Old Royal Naval College completed the first phase of planned conservation works in The Painted Hall, which saw 560 square meters of paintings in the Upper Hall cleaned and restored to dramatic effect. The Old Royal Naval College is now embarking on the next stage of its ambitious plans to restore The Painted Hall to its former glory. Over the next three years we plan to conserve the remaining 3,700 square meters of Thornhill’s masterpiece.
The Painted Hall will therefore be closing its doors for weddings on Sunday 25th September 2016, reopening late 2018 / early 2019.
During the conservation period our Admiral’s House and Queen Mary Undercroft are still available for hire.

March 2025Beautiful baroque architecture, good winter light on the colonnade, striking skeletons of plain trees, extremely restored pipe organ in the chapel of St. Peter and St Paul.

January 2025Visited on first Sunday of the month so the ticket is cheaper, only £5. And there is Mars in the main hall. We spent about 2hr here, the audio guide is very good, a lot of information , highly recommended. You will know more about the story, history of the college, and the meaning of all paintings.

January 2025The Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich is a stunning historical site and an architectural masterpiece. Attending a graduation ceremony there is an unforgettable experience, surrounded by its grand Baroque-style buildings and awe-inspiring Painted Hall. The atmosphere is both regal and serene, enhanced by its riverside location with breathtaking views of the Thames. Its vast and beautifully maintained grounds make it one of the most iconic landmarks, perfectly blending history, education, and charm. An absolutely eye-catching and monumental place

March 2025We went on a tour that ended up being just us and our guide. It made it worth every penny to have someone walk us around and explain the background and history of the Old College. You can also ask to convert your tickets into an annual pass at the visitor's center.
