Perfect location in New Town Edinburgh, near shopping and highly walkable. The building is gorgeous, old mixed with the new. Very comfortable rooms. We loved the set up with the restaurant on site. It's surrounded by extremely comfy couches in a cozy layout and very casual for moderate to higher end food options. Excellent scotch selection on site as well. We adored the concierge who helped point us to a few places to visit. Easy cab service called from the front desk as well.

My stay was amazing! The concierge David was the quintessential Scottish gentleman and the room was quite comfortable. The front desk staff were absolutely accommodating and their garden an amazing place to just relax. I'd love to come back with more family members and spend a proper amount of time here.

A historical yet modern hotel located in the heart of Edinburgh. Perfect location, perfect rooms and service with very friendly staff. Some of them are wearing traditional Scottish kilt outfit which is very nice to see. We’ve had one of our consultation events in this hotel and it was one of the most satisfied ones we’ve had. Definitely recommended

I was upgraded on arrival to a roof terrace access room, which was nice. The terrace is probably the best feature of this hotel with views up to Calton hill. The room (and much of the hotel) was unfortunately a little dated with lots of wear and tear to the woodwork and furniture, the bathroom was similarly dated and the shower lacked pressure. The breakfast was a huge rip off, £30 for one of the most basic "full Scottish" I've ever had, terrible coffee, and a very underwhelming continental buffet, which alone would cost £15. The restaurant was also showing signs of age. The whole place is in need of a bit of care and the breakfast just isn't worth the cost. The service on the other hand was very good.

Despite great service and a nice property in a good location, the shockingly badly-designed bathrooms make this hotel impossible to recommend. * Stand-up showers are completely flat with the rest of the bathroom, and the swinging door goes all the way to the floor. This means (a.) Water leaks out from the shower onto the rest of the floor and (b.) there's no way to put a bath mat outside the shower to stop the leaking water, because the door pushes the bathmat away when you open the door to get into the shower. * Shower door has no handle on the inside. * Toilet is not far enough from the wall, and the flush button sticks out so far that the seat and lid cannot lean against the wall due to the laws of gravity. Meaning you have to sit to use the toilet. * Sitting down on the toilet is weird as well. Because the button sticks out so far from the wall, the toilet flushes when you sit down, and anytime you move on the seat. * Trash bin is unreachable under the depths of the sink without crawling on your hands and knees to retrieve the trash bin. I pulled it out daily, housekeeping would push it back into unreachable position daily. I know this is "spoiled brat" territory but that stuff is actually annoying when supposedly staying at a "luxury" hotel. The bathrooms are downright amateurish. The shower problems are solved by having a shower door in two parts, the actual door ends 10cm from the floor and then you have a bottom part that doesn't swing. Voila, no leaks and usable bathmats. And when you buy a door, pick one with a handle on the inside. The toilet needs to be farther from the wall and/or the flush button needs to stick out less. That is all.
