The Merchant hotel is the only AA five Red Star hotel in Northern Ireland situated in the heart of Belfast city centre's historic Cathedral Quarter. 62 highly apointed rooms with a harmonious blend of Victorian grandeur and Art Deco inspired sleek modernity. Formerly the Head Quarters of the Ulster Bank which dates back to 1860, this part Grade A listed property was sensitively resorted to its original splendour and is quite unlike anything in Belfast with a multitude of exciting amenities. The Event Space at The Merchant hotel was built in 2010 offering a range of spaces, from our 16 person boardroom, ideal for smaller meetings or private dining; right through to our Rita Duffy suite, perfect for conferences, dinners for up to 200 people. We also have a beautifully landscaped Absolut Roof Garden, decorated seasonally with a striking and inventive theme. Our Roof Garden is unique to the city and is available all year for private events, catering for up to 70 guests.

The Brian Ballard Room and its counterpart the Jonathan Aiken Room are ideal for breakfast meetings, lunch and dinner parties, meetings, drinks receptions, or as a breakout room with the main conference plenary taking place in the Rita Duffy Suite.

The service today at the Merchant was superb. We came with a voucher bought for us to celebrate and we were certainly well looked after. Having recently been to the Savoy in London for afternoon tea I can definitely say it was worth the money (was half the price) and the service was second to none. Thankyou to our lovely waitress. Keep the exceptional service up. Truly an experience that makes you feel valued as a customer. Well done. Fiona Henry

There is no better place to stay in Belfast (particularly Cathedral Quarter) than The Merchant. The rooms are immaculate, staff incredible and the beds are more comfortable than home! Room service, breakfast, jazz bar…you want for nothing while staying here. Will never stay anywhere else in Belfast!

I cannot recommend this hotel enough! We ended our trip through Ireland at The Merchant and had a wonderful time. An upgrade to a suite gave us ample space, a luxurious bathtub, and a giant comfortable bed. We opted for room service for breakfast one morning which was lovely and delicious. The staff was incredibly accommodating and helpful as well. The hotel is located in the Cathedral Quarter and close to many restaurants and bars. Any trip we take to Belfast will include a stay at the Merchant!

From start to finish, our stay at The Merchant Hotel was nothing short of amazing. The room we stayed in was absolutely stunning, spacious, beautifully designed, and equipped with every luxury you could imagine. The attention to detail in the room made it feel like a home away from home, with all the comforts and high-end touches you could ask for. The restaurant experience was equally impressive. The food was exquisite, and the service was top-notch. All in all, The Merchant Hotel offers an experience that’s second to none. Between the stunning room and delicious food, it truly is a special place that we’ll definitely be returning to. Highly recommend!

Attended a wedding here. Prices are absolutely insane for the standard of beer and wine they sell. Cheap quality beer and wine but they think they can charge £8+ because it's a nice hotel. Round of 4 drinks was £36. I would have gotten it if it was decent local or top quality European beer.
