February 20252 night stay in “dog friendly” room. Immediately asked to upgrade room as room was dingy with stained carpets. Despite hotel being almost empty we were advised we couldn’t upgrade because we had a dog with us. I understand this policy but don’t understand why the room had not been maintained in keeping with the rest of the hotel. 1st night in the bar for food was fine. Nice food. 2nd night went down to the bar which was empty at 7.30pm only to be told we couldn’t have dinner because we hadn’t booked and because the restaurant staff were busy catering for an ABBA tribute night in the hotel. We hadn’t been advised that eating in the bar would be an issue when we checked in. We had to drive into Peebles to find another restaurant meaning we couldn’t have a drink with our meal. After emails with the duty manager I requested one night’s refund as our weekend away was ruined. His reply was to offer us a 20% discount off a future stay. Don’t think I’ll be going back there any time soon.
