I recently revisited the Castle Museum and noticed there’s been a price increase since my last visit, but the ticket now includes entry for the entire year, which makes it great value if you plan to return. As always, the museum offers plenty of fascinating historical elements to explore. One of the highlights for me was the mock-up of the old town—it's so immersive watching it transition from day to night, complete with a thunderstorm! It really brings the history to life in a unique and engaging way. Overall, it’s a great place to learn and experience history, and the annual pass makes it worth the visit.

Absolute must visit whilst in York. Me and my partner love history and spent ages reading and looking at all the various items over the years! Ghost week was also going on, so hunting for all the ghosts in the street was good fun (not just for kids!) Cafe was a tad expensive but the staff everywhere were so so lovely! 💯% would recommend!

At £17 each we hoped this would be fairly good value and we're not disappointed. Your ticket actually allows you free return visits too. The extensive galleries and semi interactive wings of this pretty huge facility is extremely well assembled and laid out in a way that has you almost wondering if you missed a section down an alley or corridor. It is vast but not cavernous like the Natural history museum in London. The replica streets have some genuine shops and pub frontages as well as really furniture actually used by locals over a period of several hundred years. The wartime displays and the stories of the characters are well produced. My personal favourite parts were the train carriage replica (look under the seat cushions!) and the projections of the prisoners in the old jail. This is probably the best museum I have been in for a very long time and definitely worth the price of admission. Allow yourself 2 hours to really explore the entire collection. The highlight of our trip to York.
