Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge Hotel, Exclusive Hire

The food is always good, I usually am part of a conference when I visit so no comment about the rooms. When I have ordered food, make sure you have plenty of time because it takes a while to come through, also if you want to dine with more then 3 others, you need to book a table ahead of time. They aren't used to having big amounts of people it seems. Every time I have come (4 weekends now) they seem to get overwhelmed with too many people eating! If you plan your meals and book ahead, you should be fine, just don't plan to have a quick meal here!

Really warm friendly welcome on arrival and very pleasant and attentive service from the member of staff in the bar so that was all a good start. Have stayed in the hotel a number of times so no surprises re room etc. Decent size, thought the toiletries had been improved (am a bit choosy and rarely use the hotel offerings but these were good). Bathroom (in particular bath panel) slightly shabby and could do with repairing but shower was hot and powerful so that ticks the boxes. Dinner was fine, good choice on the set menu and the house wine as decent quality. Would be nice to be offered some bread with the starter (or maybe I just stay in too many French places where it's a given...). Breakfast slightly disappointing in terms of the 'continental' offering. Lots of Mercure hotels make a feature of using local produce so maybe this is something the hotel could think about, particularly for example jams/honey as the jams on offer weren't great quality. Positive though that cooked breakfast now cooked to order, that's much better than the serve yourself offering.

Excellent location if you're there to hike or do anything in the surrounding countryside. The hotel is a bit ragged and needs renovating but having said that, if you don't expect a 5 star all shining experience, you won't be disappointed. The slightly run down decor etc kind of adds to the charm of it being a countryside hotel. Service was good, wifi fast and good, bed comfy, shower great, room facilities ok. I would suggest to the hotel to put room service menus in the room. Having to go to reception to order room service kind of defeats the purpose of not wanting to leave your room. Not a dealbreaker by any means tho. I'd still recommend staying here and will certainly be back myself.
