We recently hosted a surprise birthday lunch at Down Hall Hotel in December, and it was an unforgettable experience. The event took place in the Lyndhurst Suite, which was absolutely stunning—a perfect setting for an intimate and special occasion. The elegant decor and ambiance of the room required very little additional effort to make it feel extraordinary. The menu options for such events were impressively extensive, and the online platform made managing choices simple and stress-free. Zoe from the wedding and events team was exceptional, ensuring the planning process was seamless. She was always reachable and attentive, making us feel confident and supported in the lead-up to the event. On the day, the lady who hosted our event was outstanding (I regret not catching her name). Her professionalism and warm approach ensured everything ran smoothly, adding a personal touch that we truly appreciated. The hotel itself is breathtaking, with beautiful rooms and surroundings that add to the charm. They cater wonderfully to all dietary needs and requirements, which was important for our diverse group of guests. I highly recommend Down Hall Hotel for any special occasion. The team’s dedication and the venue’s timeless elegance make for a memorable experience. Thank you to everyone who made this celebration so special—we will definitely be booking again!

I recently had the pleasure of enjoying afternoon tea at Down Hall, and it was an absolutely delightful experience from start to finish. The food was exquisite—perfectly crafted finger sandwiches, warm, fluffy scones, and an array of beautifully presented pastries that were as delicious as they were indulgent. The service was exceptional, with a special mention to Jane, who went above and beyond to make our visit truly special. Her attentiveness, friendly demeanor, and genuine care added a personal touch that made the afternoon even more memorable. The location itself is stunning—nestled in picturesque surroundings with beautifully landscaped gardens that create a serene and elegant atmosphere. The entire team at Down Hall deserves praise for their professionalism and warm hospitality, ensuring that every guest feels truly valued. If you’re looking for a luxurious and unforgettable afternoon tea experience, Down Hall is the place to be. I can’t recommend it highly enough and can’t wait to return!

Amazing stay at the hotel itself, however this was a spa weekend. The spa was extremely poor. Extremely small, and unfortunately the hydrotherapy pool was not working the day we attended, therefore left with just a sauna and steam room. We booked a massage for 2 half an hour after our “wet spa” session, and to our surprise were asked to take our things out of our locker and into the room we had our massages due to issues with space (must have been around 10-12 lockers, seemingly less than that in the spa at the time) poor massage - more rubbing rather than massaging. The hotel and grounds itself were great as well as the restaurant to our surprise - but very poor spa facilities and service would not return for this reason.

A treat for my daughter and myself. Shocked to be charged for the “wet spa” £30 each, even though we were guests at the hotel and had booked several treatments. No mention of fee in the confirmation email and no explanation that there is an option of one or two hour sessions, or the option to use the gym facilities (sauna/steam rooms) for free. Changing rooms were small and we had to take our clothes with us when we had our treatments, which was inconvenient as the floor had flooded after our showers. Relaxation room was too cold to use. But the jacuzzi was a nice size… there is no pool after a tragic incident some years ago. Spa area is very small so I understand the need to book sessions but the additional fee should be more transparent. I complained to reception and later emailed management, without response. Lovely grounds and rooms in the main building were lovely and fresh but I understand not all rooms are yet up to standard. All staff we interacted with were pleasant, friendly and polite and the meal in the bar (restaurant was closed due to slow period) was very good. Would stay again but would be very wary of the additional charges for the spa, given the facilities.

We booked the spa Sunday, we arrived at the location to have the receptionist telling us the jacuzzi wasn't working. So they gave us a discount on the price, but we would have greatly appreciated an email or phone call to acknowledge that so we could have book somewhere else or reschedule. The changing room are so small that we needed to take turn with another couple to get inside the cubicle. Level of hygiene is very poor, the floor was dirty and I've seen member of staff entering and exiting the spa without acknowledging there was the need of cleaning the floor. Tiles missing and limescale all over, the place is not looked after. Location is great but that's all.
