The staff are very nice and friendly, but the hotel itself is in massive need of a refurbishment. It was all very dated and felt worn out Felt like the begining of a horror film where the people in the hotel start to go missing and you can't leave because you're in the middle of no where! Their wine selection was the finest selection from the vineyards of Barnsley. Ranging from the £1.99 Lambrini to the £4.99 Echo falls, with a 200% mark up of course. I settled with a JD and coke, but they had no ice. If you are an Amercian and you fancy something possibly haunted, I highly recommend. To anyone else looking for comfort, good food and quality drinks. Perhaps look elsewhere.

Took my friends here as a surprise gift. Rooms very outdated and hotel freezing cold. Asked to be move somewhere warmer was told the heating on timer and everywhere is cold. We were the only people in there. Lady on reception looked cold was left to do afternoon tea as well. Couldn’t wait to leave don’t go here. Outdated, cold not enjoyably

Recently had 2 nights stay, booked as I was attending the event near by. The hotel itself is old and tired building, it's clean, staff is friendly, I liked the restaurant - the food was tasty, though not much of the choice. No drinking water in the room (provided upon request though), smell was a bit funky, I didn't have a shower - only bathtub. Carrying luggage all the way up was not too fun. Overall I didn't hate it, but definitely not staying again.

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Carpets were water logged your feet sank into them. Room was freezing cold and heating was giving off a horrid smell. Damp around the windows. 3 to 4 inches of dirt and dust all around the skirting boards around the room. Black pubic hair everywhere. Bath plug chain was cracked. Part of it fell in the bath and I cut the back of my leg on it. Room smelled damp and musty. In the morning I woke up to find an army of woodlice crawling all over the room floor. Also had a really bad night's sleep due to the bed being so uncomfortable. To which I also woke up the next day with my right arm full of bites, clearly from the bugs that were in the bed. Absolutely disgusting. Downstairs hardly anything to drink at the bar. Food was horrendous and expensive, no atmosphere or morale at all. In the sitting room, behind chair were empty J20 bottles had clearly been there a while. Dust and dirt everywhere. I have scored a 1 star for this hotel, but to be honest, with the experience of my stay, the property is not worthy of a rating it was that bad. Avoid, avoid avoid.

I was so disappointed at what I met at room 48 which I was given. I declined sleeping the night. Spider web welcomed me and the cold room discouraged me from enjoying the reservation. I complained to staff and I was not offered another place. She only said she will let the manager know the next day. I am yet to receive a call or text as at this report. It was a horrible experience. I actually booked it as a surprise for 25th eve for wifey but it was a failed project. I do hope that if my review helps the management improve state of things for future guests, I have added value to the experience tourism industry for others.
