Once an 18th century coaching inn, The White Hart in Ampthill is situated in the north of the Georgian market town.

This historic Grade II listed building, which may date back as far as the 16th Century, continues to be a prominent destination in Ampthill. Features include a wall mural above the bar’s fireplace of the Prince of Wales feathers, created by local artists in 1646, whilst our stylish 1930s dining room was built towards the end of the arts and crafts era.

Our Mediterranean-inspired menu is served daily from 8am, and guests can choose from a variety of dishes all freshly prepared in our open kitchen. The provenance and quality of our ingredients is paramount, and our produce is ethically sourced and traceable from field to fork.

From our British meat to our free-range eggs and local beers, care is taken to ensure whether you choose our dry aged ribeye cooked over charcoal in our Josper oven, or local ale battered cod and chips, your dining experience is memorable. For families, we offer a bespoke children’s menu with accompanying activity pack, and most dietary requirements are met with ease.

Our comfortable bar area serves an extensive and varied drinks menu, while our private function space can suit any requirements from birthday celebrations to a corporate lunch.

Outside, enjoy a drink in the courtyard at The White Hart. For when the weather is a little unpredictable, we have a canopy covering providing some additional shelter. Guests are welcome to extend their visit by staying in one of our eight boutique-style bedrooms, which bring together the character of the coaching inn with the comforts of a modern hotel.

Had a superb evening last night. Was looked after by a lovely lady called Amber. Great atmosphere in the restaurant. Both food and service was excellent. Would highly recommend!!

Went with friends for a drink and meal. I had a Guinness which was poured badly. The overall atmosphere was nice and the decor lovely. Service was good but I found that the bar staff a bit frosty. Food was okay we all had different things and overall we were very happy with the food.

We held the wake at the White Hart after my mother's funeral. We paid £18 per head for a preselected buffet for around 35 people, some of whom had travelled many miles to pay their respects. The buffet consisted of 2 or 3 plates of mediocre sandwiches and one plate of hummus dip and a few peppers. The latter went very quickly as there just wasn't enough. The sandwiches were barely enough. The place itself has a nice feel to it and the private function room was ideal. Similarly the staff were efficient and helpful. This is review is purely about the extortionate charge made for a few sandwiches and a plate of hummus. Oh, there were also 2 big bowls of standard fayre fries. Great. Not being one to rush to give negative views, and baring in mind the occasion, I went in to the White Hart the next day and spoke privately to a very helpful assistant manager who took the time to listen to my issues and made plenty of notes, assuring me he would pass them up the line to more senior management. I have no doubt he did that. And yet after 2 weeks there has been no response and I doubt one is forthcoming. I won't be returning and certainly caution against booking an important event here.

Recently visited for lunch. Food was poor and not as described. All but one member of staff were aloof, our waitress was particularly unhelpful and abrupt. Not once were we checked on for drinks, and when we did ask for them it felt like chore. Avoid.
