Great hotel, friendly staff! They’ve recently updated their menu and tried to make it fancy but in my opinion have ruined it! Also keep everything out of sight, spare wheel off my van got nicked Jan ‘25, not much could have been done to avoid that though…

Stopped off here on my way down to my brother's house for Christmas which is a long drive from my place in Dundee to Newbury. I'm a big fan of Holiday Inn, I've always found them great for spending the night, I use them a lot for work before flying out the next day. This time I'm with my Mum, we had food which was really nice, beers were good too. Beds seem comfortable and the rooms are really nice. Sure you can see by the pictures.

Room was ok, although it was set up for 3 people, sofa bed was made up which meant we had limited floor space. Breakfast was great on the 1st morning, couldn’t fault the service, the selection for breakfast, table laid out properly. However the 2nd morning was a totally different experience. The races were on at Haydock and it was busy. Unfortunately, it seemed that there was only 1 experienced person on duty. She was doing everything from checking people in, seating them, taking tea & coffee orders etc…… One coffee machine was out of order which didn’t help. There were no mugs or cutlery on the table, we had to wait 20 mins for our hot drinks and I had to ask 3 times. The food was slow being refilled. We were disappointed. On the upside, one particular member of staff was excellent, Mandy! She was efficient, friendly and thoroughly good at her job. Her customer service was 2nd to none. I do appreciate there were a lot of new staff on shift, but maybe don’t put them all on the same rota and the same shifts??? Apart from the breakfast on our 2nd morning, everything else was really good. Jo Tuck Watford, Herts.

A poor poor showing for a holiday inn. Booked the executive room only to find when the radiator was turned on it had the same decibels as the Apollo 11 spacecraft, the wall with the interconnecting door was so thin we could hear people coughing in the next room, the Tv was an LG model which reminded me of a house clear I did of a dead relative in 2008, the sofa was straight out of the 80s with mismatched cushions that a museum would beg for, the bath not being able to fit a 5 foot 9 human, the under sheet having blood on from a previous guest, the shower pressure resembling a garden hose pipe and attempted to check in at the front desk by a chef who said “I can’t check you in love but I make a cracking breakfast”. However I would have Ignored all that If there wasn’t a dozen black hairs in the bath. To top that all off there was a card on the bed saying the hotel has the highest hygiene levels and my room had been cleaned by Victoria who had somehow decided to sprinkle black hairs in the bath. When I spoke to Reception to address the issue all I got was “ow wow” then silence for about 10 seconds. I was offered a room move but they didn’t have my type of room available so the lady in charge of Reception said “would you like the bath cleaned” like she was doing me a sort of favour. The bath was eventually cleaned. Food was no better, booked in the restaurant for 8pm only to find a sign advising of a 1 hour wait for food. There were 6 tables in the restaurant when we were seated yet there was an hour wait. The chicken burger and chips came with a side of battered pieces of fish from what I presume was a previous order. When I mentioned this to the duty Manager Kim I was fobbed by her saying “it’s all cooked in the same fryer love” When I tried to explain it’s a cross contamination/ allergy issue and I’ve not even ordered any fish she then says “it’s just a like a chippy, it’s going to happen” I’ve never been to a hotel, restaurant or chippy when to get previous fish batter ends in your chips. The cheese on the garlic bread was an American square cheese slice so barely melted I was able to pull it off in one and the chips were battling to try and stay above room temperature. To top it all off there were young teens kicking guests doors down including mine and smearing the door handles with some sort of thick liquid to which the issue was not resolved again with all the leisure facilities closed with police CSI crime tape covering the joint. How this IHG hotel has supposedly passed an audit is beyond me.
