When the sun is shining, everyone wants to get outdoors. That’s what makes summer the perfect time to get your team together for some fun team-building activities. Whether you’re into outdoor games, team challenges, creative activities, or social events, there’s something for everyone! Planning some team-building activities for your summer party is a great way to guarantee a good time. Here are a few team building activities we love ourselves:
Outdoor Games
If you decide to host your summer party outdoors in a park (London has some great ones!), there’s lots you can do in terms of team building. Organise a good old sports day or field day. You can plan events like a water balloon toss or an egg race. Play a game of rounders or capture the flag. Break people into pairs and see who can win at the three-legged race. Outdoor games are a super fun way to build trust, breakdown barriers, and improve communication. There are so many different ones you can plan and put together for your team. Make sure to organise some food and drinks as well to keep people powered up throughout the day.
Team Challenges
A team challenge is the most obvious choice of team building activity. We find that the best way to incorporate a team challenge into your summer party is by kicking the day off with one, followed by something more social. There are some great companies, like GOTO Events, that put together scavenger hunts and other great activities. Alternatively if you don’t mind being inside for some of the day, you could always try your hand at an escape room or lifesize boardgame like Monopoly.
Creative Activities
Let your team flex their skills by partaking in some creative activities. You could have an art contest where everyone comes up with a new logo for the company. You can see who has the best pipes at karaoke or see if someone can create the best TikTok dance for your social channels. The great thing about using creative activities for team building is that you can really work with your team’s strengths to make a fun and interactive day. Try taking a poll ahead of time to see what people would be interested in – that’s another fantastic way to get the whole team involved from the get go.
Social Events
If you’re struggling with coming up with any creative activities, team challenges, or outdoor games, you can always opt for some team building social activities for your summer party. Try organising a potluck lunch or dinner where you assign each course to a different group of people. Everyone will have to work together to plan out the menu, cook, and bring in the food. You can do the same with an ice cream social or BBQ. Planning a social event is pretty straightforward, but by adding in a couple of team building aspects, you’ll find the impact of the event to be even greater.
Why Team Building is So Great
Team building is super important in maintaining a positive work environment. By having regular team building activities, whether that’s at a summer party, team away day, or conference, you’re able to keep communication open between employees. You’re also able to reduce stress and burnout. People want to have fun, so keep your team building fun and you’ll see great results. One of the best ways to do that is to combine team building with a social event like a happy hour.
We find that by combining team building and something social is one of the best ways to ensure a good turnout. You don’t really ever want to make any office events mandatory, but by planning something exciting, you should end up with a great turnout.
