There’s something about the summer that just brings people together. Maybe it’s the longer days or warmer weather or maybe it’s just that people are happier when the sun is shining. Whatever it is, there’s one thing for sure, people love to throw a summer party. It doesn’t matter who the party is for – it can be your colleagues or your friends – there just needs to be a great theme. Summer party themes range from garden parties and festivals to a competitive sports day or picnic. Here are a few themes we keep hearing about.
Garden Party
Garden parties make us think about beautiful table settings complimented by flower arrangements and leafy foliage. This summer party theme is a great one because you can make it happen in a ton of different venues and spaces. Whether you’re hosting it at your home or at a venue, make sure you have clear plans in place for food, drinks, and decor. You should also have a backup plan in case of bad weather.
Ensure you have enough seating for guests – whether that’s chairs at the table, little couches, or poufs for them to sit on. Have a welcome drink ready to go for when guests arrive. Establish a dress code and hang fun decorations like bunting and fairy lights around to set the mood.
Festival
Another popular theme for summer parties is a festival. This is especially popular for corporate parties. What could be more fun than the whole team getting together for good music, games, food, and cocktails. The British Festival scene is one of the best in the world so draw inspiration from Glastonbury and Latitude.
Make it a whole weekend event by finding a venue that has options for glamping and can provide yurts for your whole team. Make sure you get some cool food vendors – food trucks are always a great shout and don’t skimp out on drink options. Ensure you have enough entertainment for everyone to enjoy. It’ll be a weekend that everyone will be talking about for years to come.
Beach Party
Create your own Hawaiian luau for your summer party. Nothing makes you think of summer more than the beach so you might as well use that as a theme for your party. If you can’t go to the beach, bring the beach to you! Grab some tiki torches, set up a tiki bar, and enjoy the sunshine with your team or friends.
Have everyone rock their best beach attire, give them a lei, and add a little umbrella to cocktails to really get the theme right. And if you’re landlocked and can’t find a beach or patch of sand nearby, there are some cool venues that do.
Sports Day
If your team loves a bit of friendly competition hosting a sports day is a great idea. Whether you go traditional and do some team building with three-legged races, egg and spoon races, tug of war or play a game of rounders, it’ll be a fun afternoon.
It’s super easy to throw a sports day themed summer party and it’s also an affordable option. Create a committee who can pick teams and games to play. Organise prizes so you can do an awards ceremony at the end of the day. Set up some tables around the field with food and drinks and you’re bound to have a great time. And if you’re looking for a competitive activity but don’t want to plan it yourself, why not play a game of bowls in the heart of London?
Picnic or BBQ
Sometimes low key parties are the best, which is why we think that hosting a picnic or bbq for your summer party is a great idea. It’s a more relaxed way of getting friends or colleagues together and can be done in so many different ways (including on a boat…). However you choose to make it happen, the most important things to consider are food and drinks and games.
This is a great time for a game of beer pong, corn hole, or giant Jenga. Make sure you have a great selection of beer and Pimms on hand and serve classic hamburgers and hot dogs or order in some sandwich platters.
